Amazing Cortana Cosplay Posted by Malechei
|
On a site like the 405th.com, users are surrounded by incredible talent wielded by visionaries, some professional, most amateur. One of these visionaries, {Cortana, has attracted an awful lot of attention lately, every bit of it well deserved, by pulling off what the community seems to have agreed (and I concur) is the best Cortana cosplay we’ve ever seen. Starting from scratch after an initial letdown of being sent the wrong color suit, {Cortana decided to sew the suit herself from lycra and then drew the initial details on with a Sharpie while looking in the mirror. Since then, she and her boyfriend (lucky guy that he is), have been slaving away at adding all the little intricacies into this amazing work of art. This kind of expert craftsmanship, attention to detail, and dire, often crazy dedication to the art is what the 405th is all about. We’ll be looking for more amazing work from her. But words won’t do it justice, so let’s let the pictures speak for themselves. Enjoy.
- {Cortana disassembled the first bodysuit, which was the wrong color, to generate the pattern for the new suit.
- With the correct color fabric in hand, {Cortana used the pieces of the old suit to cut the shapes for the new, improved suit.
- The key to sewing stretchy fabrics: stretchy thread!
- A test fitting of the new suit. Looking good so far.
- Sewing cat approves.
- A test of the fabric paint.
- Some more pieces being fitted together. All we can say is “ooh! Shiny!”
- Test fitting of the finished suit (and wig)
- A perfectly fitting bodysuit, ready for outlines and painting.
- A view of the back of the bodysuit, showing the zipper. Mad props for sewing lycra, girl!
- She’s added the outlines to the suit with a marker. With the makeup and wig she’s looking the part.
- Using layers of black, metallic purple, and metallic blue, she had a helper fill in the outlines drawn on the suit.
- The outlines on the back of the suit.
- The layers of paint build up to provide the right effect for an AI
- The wig before styling and trimming. The wig is a blue/purple mix purchased off Ebay.
- The wig was trimmed and styled to acheive that Cortana look.
- Being careful not to trim too much off, she carefully styled the wig. The shape was then secured with Gt2B freezing hair spray. It holds it’s shape, and it doesn’t have a harsh scent
- She used beads to give the hair the “digital look”
- Painting the outlines is MUCH easier with a helper to do the painting while you’re wearing the suit. In this case, the helper is {Cortana’s boyfriend. Lucky man.
- Additional layers of metallic blue and metallic purple bring the suit closer to the finished look.
- The additional layers of paint on the back of the suit.
- Pretty much there.
- Looking good. That’s it for the bulk of the painting.
- The beads were purchased in strings at a local craft store. They are glued at the top and bottom to integrate them into the wig. In a nod to Bungie, there are seven strands of larger beads.
- The iconic image that Halo fans have grown to love.
- With all the pieces in place, this is, by far, the best Cortana costume we’ve ever seen.
The makeup really makes this cosplay, so we asked {Cortana how she went about getting the look.
