pretty fond of the design of this guy, so i decided to try my hand at making the best i can for him.

Edit: wow! Elite showcase! well for those who want a spoiler, here what the finished project looks like

i was eager to try out foam armor techniques i see popping around, and wanted to see what different thickness foam will do when combined..
so i started with the armored riot vest first.

i drew a paper plan by hand, eye'ballin' it and then copied a symetrical version of it to card stock till i was satisfied,
after that i cut the shapes in foam.

and rounded the edges

started to form them into good shapes with some heat.

and then glued them down, as well as using some elastic strapping to make a "rig" for the vest to be wearable.

the black duster is a place holder till i make the proper coat, but it's to give an impression of how the coat will hang on the armor.

a little dorky right now, but i think it's ready for some battle damage, weathering and some stencil paints.

all and all, i'm pretty happy with how this was this weekend's work.
and a rainy weekend at that! which usually sucks the creativity right out of me.

Wow!!!!, This looks great already. I love how you did the rounded edges also, just makes it look more realistic. Please tell us how you did that.

That would be a belt sander, big power tools are great for the foam.
i use a band saw to cut the shapes also, to get nice clean lines, and no tearing.

Its EVA Anti static foam mats that he is using.

eva anti fatigue (they generate alot of static, ive been zapped, or zapped others while holding the stuff)
got from harbor freight.
good stuff, pretty much what everyone else uses for their foam builds

if you are going to make the visor light up I have an Idea. If you invest in some red cellophane and two flashlight bulbs cut the cellophane and then shin the lights on the cellophane from the inside of the helmet make sure there not to close to your eye's or you won't be able to see out of the cellophane (make sure is tinted cellophane not matte colors.)

I just..I just dont....it is too....*head explosion* dood flippin ossem concept and good luck with the helmet! any plans on how to do that?

thanks for the suggestion on the lenses, but i plan to just get some stick on red window tinting, and attach red EL wire around the edges of the lens to give the glow.

as for how i will build the mask? not sure yet, probably from plastic, once i've tested around with some pepakura first.

as for weapons, not building an AMR, im already working on an odst sniper as well, and i dont feel like two sniper rifle costumes.

revolver, and an NCR flag will suffice i think.

the helmet is going to be a ground down m1 ww2 US army helmet, 10 bucks from the local army surplus.

can't edit my posts for some reason, so
Sumofl, thanks for the suggestion, that's exactly what i'm using, Hugh showed it off on someone else's ranger build thread.
