Greetings!
I'm Lauren and my last attempt at prop making was some Ghost Armor from Starcraft 2. I made a bracer and stopped because I was in way over my head. This is something more manageable.
Namely, a giant World of Warcraft sword.
I saw on the WoW website that they were having a Weaponsmithing Fan art contest, with about 22 days left in the contest. I work outside on my props, and weather has stalled me a bit, but in the 6 days I have left, I hope to make a decent replica. I've been updating my tumblr (ooohhh) with pictures, but thought I'd load them here to show off a bit.
Starting out I hand-drew the design on some big poster paper.
Exacto'd it.
Hot glued the handle in place and covered it in 2 layers of expanding foam.
Started hacksawing the bejeezus out of it.
Filled in the gaps with MOAR foam, cut it up some more... Also at this point I started testing out Bondo and Epoxy (not at the same time) on the opposite side. I'm only doing half of the sword, so I can hang it up on my wall as a big, nerdy tribute.
More Bondo and some sanding of said Bondo.
My fanclub of feral chickens.
So that's the culmination of my work, a little over 2 weeks. Needs some more sanding and shaping of the hilt, so if the weather holds up I should be able to get this done in the next week.
