My second Halo related project:
The Flag from the "Capture the Flag" game type:
---------
A Halloween Decoration skull
---------
A 10 foot long, 1 inch diameter pipe from the local hardware store: removing the black paint to expose the bare metal
---------
Testing the fit of the pipe into the skull. Leaving the thread on the end of the pipe makes for a firm attachment point.
---------
A bit of chicken wire folded into the basic shape of the golden horns.
---------
Covering the chicken wire with Sculpy
---------
Eight pounds of Sculpy later, and I decide I would rather not carry eight pounds on the end of a long metal pole.
---------
Using my Eight Pound Paperweight as a base, I cast a hard resin mold.
---------
Inside the Hard Mold, I placed strips of Rip Stop Nylon coated in a nylon casting resin: This combo is a cheaper, easier to use, and less toxic than fiberglass and the resin that goes with it.
After each half cures overnight, fill with expanding foam and squeeze the two halves together. A final layer of nylon resin seals everything in and gives a smooth outer surface.
---------
One Paintjob later and the ornament is complete
---------
Completed* flag assembly.
* I'll add the pattern to the flag fabric once I learn how to airbrush properly.
