a few months ago on DA I said I was planning on making Halo Armor.

Well, I've decided to do so. I'm starting small by making a Halo Reach Tactical TACPAD, the wrist Communicator-like Device, like Carter, Noble 1, has.

I started with piling slabs of Chavant Non-drying Modeling Clay (Non Sulfur) onto a potter's wheel and just carved out from it with clay tools.

It took alot of in-game Ref shots to help make this, but so far, it's coming out pretty good.

let me know what you think.

The second part of my Halo armor project, the Tactical TACPAD

I smoothed out all the details and I've placed the model on top of a Lego Mat.

Why Lego, you ask? I recently learned that Lego bricks make a great mold box, easy to customize the size, no hot glue necessary AND it's steady enough to hold the silicone

once the bricks get here I'll assemble it, then I'll get the mode materials soon and we'll be making progress

wish me luck more

if i were you id make the box as small as you can while still retaining an inch around the outside of the sculpt, the larger the box the more silicone and a box mould for that will set you back a lot of silicone. If i were you id suggest a jacket mold to save on money for supplies :)

I've though of doing it that way, using more brush-on molds. but I looked over what Smooth-on had to offer and figure a 2 part box would work better for this.

besides, it'll be my first mold and I want to make sure it comes out good.

thanks for the suggestion though

Finally! I have my silicone.

The silicone in question is Smooth On's Mold Max 15, a Compound that mixes 1:1 by volume and doesn't need Degassing [link]

The Lego is holding. there are some bits seeping through but not bad enough to worry.

wish me luck. I'll be making a video soon

The Silicone has cured and I removed the Legos. I'll trim the excess and carve the innards so the final mold will be Hollow

I would recomend that you fill the mould about a half inch or so, then put the item to be molded in. That way you dont get that hole from the stuff not getting under the prop. Then just fill in the rest.

I'm sorry? could you reword that? it might be just me but I don't get what you mean?

I may be wrong but I think you're thinking the bottom of the tacpad is the top. The part where the hole is is the bottom of his tacpad and the hole is there to pull out the casted piece.

I made the two parts, took the clay out and cleaned the excess clay off. looks pretty good as a negative. soon, i'll get the liquid plastic and make the actual prop

Actually I meant the second pic, where for some reason there is a hole on top of it. Which means if you use the mould, there is nothing between the casting and the lego studs. Which will leave tiny craters all over it.

oh I see. Well, as you see in my recent post,i solved that problem

IT'S DONE!

well, almost. But the final product is done. I got the plastic and just molded it.

Looks nice huh? Well, there's still work to be done. Cut the window for my iPhone, shave more excess, and paint it. It suggests acrylic paint, thank goodness my mom paints ceramic models as one of her hobbies
