Im new to pep, started my first model around 3 weeks ago. I had intended to scratch build what i wanted out of cardboard until i found them in pep form so thought i'd give it a try, didnt expect to actually be able to do it. Turns out i was able to make things, i started with small pieces of armor instead of straight into the chest pieces i want to make so i've made several things now all of which are now resined (apart from the halo helmet i havent done yet)

I have many fav games of which i've made alot of stuff for each. I have alot of pics so will probably have to post these over several posts. Heres everything as of now:

Gears of War

I want to make Baird/Carmine's armor from gears 1/2 though taking a slight custom take on it. I want to take the shoulders (light units) from Marcus's armor and put it onto this and also using the codpiece from Marcus's though instead of silver will be painted blue/black to match the rest of the armor

This was my very first build, kinda rushed as it was really just a test to see if i could do pep or not. Standard COG/Carmine's Knee Pads

Half-Life

I will be making Gordon's HEV suit. Wanted just the chest plate but made the arm armor as more practice pieces

Halo Helmet

My first helmet build and first model i made using the pen technique. 1000x easier. Worked alot better but still a few imperfections mainly on the back. Will add some cardboard if necessary to any areas with warping. I chose not to pep the visor as i didnt want it, i think it will be fine without it in terms of warping. Will be buying a gold visor to stick in there later on

DOOM Marine Helmet

The front part (nose area) is pretty warped as the 2nd pic shows. I glued cardboard all over to fix warping but it hasnt fixed this. It seems almost twisted away from the position it should be in. Not sure how to fix that

A baby couldnt fit its head into the hole so that will be getting dremeled once its fully hardened

P1040895c.jpg

Thats everything i've done so far. Only just got my fibreglass cloth today so next step is to get that done on all the models then onto bondo. Most of the models need alot of shaping with bondo to remove the sharpness (especially the doom helmet will need alot of work)

I have alot i want to do so will continually be working on pepping others as well as working on these. Next big projects will be the HEV suit chest plate, Gears chest armor and Carmine's helmet

I will post all of my stuff here to keep it in one place. Will add updates as they take place

So I noticed the lancer with some cog tags on it.

Were you planning on getting the Retro Lancer with Gears 3?

Yeah i have the gold lancer as im in the UK (couldnt get the normal one due to our stupid laws, though hoping to soon get the normal one as custom painted one on ebay ending in a few days i hope to win)

I had considered it but again all we can get is the gold version and im not a huge fan of it so i'll probably pass unless i can get it significantly cheaper

I dont know if anyone is interested in this thread or not but an update anyway..

So i went ahead and did the gears chest armor, as i wasnt sure on default size i just did around a 5% scale increase on it. This thing is HUGE, i should have just left it default. Doesnt look so bad on though. Good thing is i can pull it on and fit it over my head and therefore dont have to split the entire thing as some people do to make it fit in two pieces. What i've done is NOT pep the neck pieces so i can fit my head through. I will do the neck pieces separately and split the back of it if i have to so once the armor is on i can put on the neck pieces as separate pieces and attach removably to the main body with either velcro, straps or some other method im not sure yet. This took 3 days to complete

The ab plates with belt seem to be attached to the bottom of the armor so i'll either dremel it off once its all strenghtened to make it separate or just dremel in details to make it seem less built in to the main body. This thing will take ages to resin, will need up to 3 coats due to its size it struggles under its own weight. Will be difficult to fibreglass the inside also and will need 2 layers

As of now i cant take a pic with it on as i am afraid of it ripping. I cant fit my shoulders through the waist hole but if i put my arms up and direct them through the arm holes i can get it on but before i did so i realised it would be practically impossible to get it off again without ripping it so i didnt bother. Hope to have it strengthened by next week

Im currently working on Anthony Carmine's helmet, alot of tiny little folds so will take me a bit longer to complete this build. In the meantime may also do the belt, will be trial and error scaling on that til it fits me. Doesnt matter so much as its only 4 pages of pieces

In regards to the last post and somewhat off-topic, i won the lancer i want. Here it is

Thank you, appreciate some feedback :) Im getting better at pepping the more i do though i still have some trouble lining up some of the numbers. Most on this lined up perfectly but some i couldnt get aligned right so just did the best i could. Any imperfections im hoping i can fix in the bondo stage, havent used body filler before yet so need to try that out soon. Will take forever to resin and fibreglass a piece this huge so it might take awhile to get to the being able to put it on safely stage

Hopefully i can post some pics of my helmet soon though expect it might take me longer to make this one. Decided i will try the boots as well so onto scaling for those. Also need to get my halo helmet resined

wow, did you make the gun? because if you did you are amazing.
Nope its just the NECA gold lancer airbrushed to look like the standard version. I have the pep file for the lancer but as i now have two of them i dont see a point in trying to pep one. I will be making the gnasher shotgun and torque bow though

A few updates

Done 2 coats of resin on the armor, now started fibreglassing (taking ages cause its so huge)

P1040934c.jpg

The sides seem to have warped a bit, my own fault for not using supports though. Hopefully i can fix it a bit

Pep'd and resined Carmine's belt

P1040933c.jpg

Current progress on Carmine's helmet, have to say this is the hardest build i've done to date

P1040942c.jpg

Hoping to have the armor finished fibreglassing within the next week. Will probably need another layer as one isnt quite strong enough. Taking ages due to its size. Will also fibreglass the belt while doing that

A few updates if anyone is interested in this thread

My Halo helmet has now had 3 coats of resin outside and fibreglassed inside. Today i dremelled all the fibreglass off the sides and temporarily put the visor in to see how it looks. This isnt a proper bike visor, its a visor insert i bought to test if these would work or not as they are way cheaper than a heavy plastic visor. If it works then will be alot cheaper and hopefully easier to fit than a thick plastic one. Cant tell for sure til i actually go to glue it in place but seems it should work ok

The top ridge in particular, as well as the back, definately need bondo work which im hoping will help the out of shape and slightly warped areas. Never used it before yet so hopefully all goes well with the bondo

Heres how it looks right now:

With it on:

I think it looks pretty good considering how big a noob i am. I didnt even expect to be able to do pepakura honestly so considering my lack of skills im pretty happy with it. Just hoping i can fix it more with bondo

Some updates on my Gears builds

Belt has been fully resined and fibreglassed. I dont think it needs bondo, if it does then it will be minor. Might go straight onto priming and painting this

P1040981c.jpg

I had to remake the spaulders as though the other set did fit me, next to the chest armor they looked ridiculously small. I increased their size by 20% and they seem about right now. So far only got one made as been working on my Carmine helmet. Fully resined and fibreglassed

P1040982c.jpg

P1040983c.jpg

Chest armor is now fully fibreglassed. Tomorrow i need to dremel the fibreglass off the sides

P1040985c.jpg

I took this pic a week or 2 ago (old spaulders pictured) but this is all of my Gears armor together:

P1040943c.jpg

All i have left to make to complete the costume is the wrists and the boots. May as well make those too

Nearly finished Carmine's helmet, took alot longer than expected. All i have left to do is the bottom of the back then i can get onto resin it

P1040957c.jpg

Thats all for now. Just finishing off the helmet and other spaulder, will resin and fibreglass those then try out bondo for the first time and hope that goes well. Will post updates when i get further on with these

Looks fantastic so far man keep up the good work. And a little Bondo tip, dont think of it like resin when your working. Bondo unlike resin is easier to get off of your fingers, heck most of the time i use my fingers to get bondo in places the rubbercard wont reach. and there are also a lot of good bondo tutorials on here so I look forward to seeing more awesome work. Keep Building 405th RT Out.

Thank you for the encouragement :) Im happy with the helmet other than the slight out of shape areas. Fixed the brim as best i could with some hot glued cardboard and a wooden lolly stick. Helped quite a bit but still not perfect. This was my first helmet and i was stupid to make it out of normal printer paper and also not pep the visor so both of those factors combined im not surprised by the warping, just hoping i can fix it. From what i've built since then i've learned alot more and will never use paper again lol. I now use at least 170 or 200gsm cardstock (what my Carmine helmet is made from) I also need to learn to use support struts, my chest armor could have done with it to hold the arm holes in shape which is the only thing im not happy with on that

That sounds better then, expected to be wearing gloves for the bondo. Fingers will be alot easier. If i got resin on my hands i cleaned it off with acetone but ideally that shouldnt be on your skin either really. I will need to look into bondo tutorials and any videos out there before i actually start using it. Will be finishing my Carmine helmet and other spaulder before i start on it. From what i know so far i know to put it on in thin layers, sand and repeat til the desired shape is obtained. Might take awhile with my warping areas but i dont mind the time as long as it works out. I will be looking into tutorials before i touch it though

Tomorrow will be dremelling the fibreglass off the chest armor then thats everything ready and i should be able to actually wear it all now. Will get it all on and see how it looks, might post a pic of that. Thinking i might dremel the bottom of the armor off as the ab plate and belt is attached to it when it should be separate, depends how it looks on though as with the belt i've made i might not have enough space for it to be separate will have to see. I will be making the neck piece out of foam, detachable with velcro if i cant get my head through the hole with it in. The chest armor will also need foam on it to make the 3D sections but that will be further down the line after bondo. Will also be attaching the spaulders detachably to the chest armor

That looks amazing. I'm loving the carmine helmet. did you model it and the armor yourself or did you download the pdo file? and if you did download it can you share the link?

Sorry for the late reply, not been around much..

I dont know how to model myself, i just got the files off here. Pretty sure i got them off this thread: http://www.405th.com/showthread.php/7160-Cog-Armor The bottom link of the first post is an rar of lots of different models including Carmine's, megafile kinda thing called the Gears of War Collection. They're in there, same files i used for my armor and helmet

The carmine helmet is a pain in the butt to pep, but you did a good job with it. Bets of luck with your build.:)

The helmet wasnt easy. I finally finished it yesterday. I only had the back to finish but i had lost motivation for months to work on any of my models. Finally decided to just do it yesterday. Its missing a few tiny little bits i didnt bother putting in cause they're so small but here it is now (cant get great pics either)

Needs resined and fibreglassed now. Cant put it on til the inside is strengthened as i put a cardboard support strut in to make it hold its shape. Still need to bondo my Halo helmet been putting that off too, mainly cause i've never used bondo before yet

Looking great. After you resin you might want to try a little rondo inside the helmet so you can fill in the rounds before doing a bondo skim coat. Still the helm looks great for all the detail that went into it.
