Chiefy's First Build Mk VI Armour

I have been working on just the pep of this for a about a week or two because of college work but im quite happy with how it turned out, (even though it only just doesnt fit yet but im sure i can trim the bottom of it or make it a two piece helmet) a few messy tabs but i reinforced them with hot glue this morning, going to move on to the pep for the shoulder next while my bro trys to root out some latex gloves for me to start resining

Looks good man! I have also made a helmet very similar to this one ( slightly different style )
Everything looks good- I like to brush on the fiberglass on the outside. ( slowly so no warping doesnt take place )
after its covered in a thin layer of fiberglass resin, Mix about 1/5 plastic cup of fiberglass resin and 4/5 of the cup with bondo, they call this "Rondo" Then simply add the right amount of hardener into the cup and stir very well- then pour it in!! Its like a jello or very thick goo
It hardens within minutes- hopefully this will help you alittle! ( BONDO on the OUTSIDE of the paper will take lots of sanding process )
The pep work looks great!! KEEP IT UP!! Hope to see future process soon!! And good luck on them Finals!

Thanks dude and i will have as much progress done as possible (stupid college exams) i will probably measure every part of my body tomorrow methinks so it gets it out of the way
Im a bit worried abuot the resining part cos the hardener is very different to one in the states but the body filler (bondo) is pretty much the same

I understand how college can be- keeps you busy all the time. If you live in a dorm- you will never get anything done due to other people bothering you =D, well take your time!!
( I made this entire costume within 3 weeks )-( its also made of foam mats, not resin and bondo ) it took about 4 hours every day for 3 weeks... The helmet was a mess! Don't worry about the fiberglassing- if you buy the jug with SUV and boat on the front at Wal-mart, just use about 1/4 cup and only acouple drops of hardener- and start at the top-
***DONT COVER IT ALL AT ONE TIME!!! This will cause warping and the paper may fall alittle---
**Cover the top lightly and let it dry- this will help keep its shape, then go about half way down- let it dry- then turn it over and paint the bottom-- Hope that helps
Fiberglass isn't that messy!! Just take your time doing it!! Hope that helps!!

Supports ( as to hold them in place im guessing? )
** Nogood (I) used velcro strips- glued one part to my black under shirt and the other part underneath the part itself.. So very little sliding could take place
***Pro's like Thorn will probably use straps. ( I'm currently working on a strap system with my new upgraded suit, haha )
** Nogood (I) have had problems with my idea because the more times you put the suit on.. the velcro holds better together than hold glue to the shirt! So- Straps are much easier to mess with *( LESS REPAIRS will have to be made )
----Thorn probably knows more about making the straps themselves- but my advice to you is 3 simple steps below
#1- Use Strap system ( chest piece is held up by your shoulders and the other pieces are strapped to the chest piece )
#2- Don't worry to much about strap system until you have most parts complete * ( I'm a sucker for finishing...but make sure to take your time and make each piece look perfect before you put the finishing touches on it!! **
#3- Get BETTER ADVICE from a Pro, ( Pro is someone who has perfected it before ) Mine isn't the best
LAST THING ---
This is a hard pep file- or a more complex version of the helmet- it looks amazing!! keep up the work!! (helmets hardest part in my opinion) so finish the with perfection and you have it easily made =P

I have worked on the shoulder all weekend and tonight after college, but unfortunately it was just my luck and i have run out of superglue near the end and dont have time to finish it tonight with the gluegun but this is what ive got so far
but on a lighter note i might be able to resin the helmet this wednesday (Y)

(I pep out every piece of the mark 5 armour using wiki, sadly I didn't resize them... so the thigh piece was as long as my leg...)
Chest was WAY to BIG.....)
and i hot glued them all together to sadly finally realize that none fit me....... SO DONT MESS UP LIKE ME!! TEST FIRST THEN move to next piece =P

Thanks man im quite positive it will fit because it seems wide and deep enough and i carefully measured the height, but im not starting anything on the left shoulder or forearm until im perfectly happy with the right shoulder and forearm, when would be best to cut out the paper supports after the resin or the resin-body filler combo? (Rondo in the USA )

I would add the supporters before I put fiberglass on the outside. ( the supporters help hold the paper together, or they help the paper not warp or bend during the fiberglass process...
some people may skip the fiberglass step all together.. but paper and hot glue isnt very strong (so thats why i use a thin layer of fiberglass resin on the outside.. gives it less chance of warping or sagging in places...
So put in supports before any hardener goes on. try and make it as tough as possible before ( American RONDO ) goes in
* REMEMBER GET MORE THEN ONE OPPONION!! mine is normally 62.5 right

By supports I Take it we are talking about the paper supports? Glue them in as you're finishing that part. This will...well support the part and/or help it keep its shape when you go to resin. You would cut them out after you resin, but before you rondo or use the cloth method.
As for the straps, I cheated
I used a double Chicago screw set up and attached them to the chest plate. When you get to that stage pm me and I'll walk you thru it if you wish to go that route.
