Well this is my first attempt at a WIP so here goes. This is my latest helmet the satchmo reach commando concept.

Hopefully have it ready to cast in a week or two, I have this nasty condition called a job that prevents me from devoting enough time to important stuff.

Here is the other problem I have, I get really excited during the initial stage but my follow through sucks... I'm getting better though ;) I should be molding my odst this weekend.

I have the same problem. I can hardly finish my helmets. BTW your helmets look great.
Thanks Sandy, checked out your pics, your armor is amazing! are you free sculpting with the foam or do you use patterns? I've tried a few pep pieces of armor but without casting they are just too brittle, I've stuck with the helmets. Great work though.

Great work on Satchmo's Commando concept ! I was very curious about how it would turn out, and I gotta say it looks fantastic; your pepping and sanding is exemplary. The Commando helmet looks SO MUCH BETTER with the head attachment/visor/brim ! :D

As for armor pieces, I use both foam techniques and the classic pep method, whichever feels most appropriated/easy.

Try to focus! A suit of armor is to a helmet what peanut butter is to strawberry jelly....they just go SO DAMN WELL togheter! :cool

MMMMMMM peanut butter :) Thanks for the compliment, I wold love to have the whole suit but I just love doing helmets, not sure why. I have half a suit pepped and resined just keep going back to helmets.

No post's for a while, sorry been really busy. Got the mold done for my odst and it came out amazing. will be getting back to work on the commando now, just finished detail need a couple finish sands with 220 and 400. Hopefully will have the money to get some rebound 25 for it soon to do up a mold for it. Will be posting some pics soon, don't be afraid to reply, I love feed back, any ideas on how to improve would be appreciated.

Heres what I'm having trouble with... how to remove material and sand smooth the recessed areas without loosing detail, any tips or ideas?

So haven't been able to work on this helmet for a while, had to do actual grown up stuff :( But here is the latest... the detail is etched and just finished the 220 sanding, coat of black primer and now for the 400 grit sanding. Hopefully be molding this one before the end of the month. Now just have to buckle down on getting the armor done.

nice work man the helmet is looking very smooth :) keep up the great work
btw do you still have the storm trooper helmet file? if so can you please pm the file to me? thanks

Yay!!! the forums are back up so I can finally post this. Got around to molding and came up with this, due to some creep in mexico stealing an image of my odst and using it to scam people, I've had to water mark my images.

So I had the idea to mold this helmet horizontally because of the visor. I rigged it up on a tube that I slid over a bar clamped in a vise. As I layered on the rebound I was able to rotate the model and keep most of the material on the model insead of dripping onto the ground, kinda like a giant rotisserie but without the chicken ;)

I got a lot better on the mother mold for this one, I made sure to put an extra lip at the open end so I don't slosh so much smooth cast out between the mold and the jacket

And the first pull. needs a bit of clean up, but I'm pretty happy with the results.

Now the real work

Started trimming and detailing. The back is a tad deformed, did a little sanding to get it into shape. The detail work is all dremel carbide carved. More will come soon.
