sooooo... ive been here since May of last year and im finally getting my ODST build off of the ground.

im using a mix of Hugh's and Kirrou's files

i have yet to get card stock, but that didnt stop me from pepping out kirrou's tester... even if i did use regular printer paper and scotch tape

it looks a bit tall to me. am i the only one that thinks that?
i plan to re-pep the tester once i get card stock, but im glad i at least got some practice with pepakura.

You definitely have a good handle on pepakura!

There's a certain process to figuring out the size for you personally, but you need normal pepakura and not pepakura viewer.

I have a quote from Cereal you may find helpful with sizing.

Ok, being that this style of helmet has one of the lowest front jaw pieces is worth noting. This helmets final resting position (when completely done) should sit 1" below your chin. So what you want to do is stand in front of a mirror and measure from the lowest point of your chin, to the tip of your head, then add 2"; one for the final position of the helm and one for the length that you will lose. (due to glassing, rondo and padding etc...)

Eg:
10" - measurement from tip of chin to top of head.
2" - extra space
10+2=12"

Then convert to mm as that is what pep viewer uses:
12" x 25.4mm = 304.8mm (round up to 305)
(keeping in mind that 25.4 must be used as this is the number that converts inches to mm)

Then just add this number to pep viewers scale height and tada, done!

If you have any other questions or need any further help, don't hesitate to ask!

Cheers,
Cereal.

Thanks! its not as clean as i had hoped, but then again, it never is when you're using printer paper instead of card stock

ill try cereal's method when i get the card stock, which hopefully is in the next day or two

Also, I wouldn't suggest using tape for your good helmet. I've heard multiple times that tape and resin don't agree, so you wouldn't want to put all that work into making a nice helmet only to have it fall apart. I suggest hot glue. That way, if a seam doesn't line up right, you can melt it with the nozzle and re-position it.

Good luck!

Honestly if you can mess with fragile printer paper I'm sure you'll be able to use the real stuff easier. And I know you're not near this step, but this link: http://www.405th.com/showthread.php/26508-Halo-3-ODST-Visors should help you with the visor when it comes to that.

I got my card stock from Michael's pretty cheap if you need a place. =] Good luck!

i wasnt planning on using tape for the final helmet, i was actually going to use hot glue, but i didnt want to waste glue because i knew i was going to scrap the paper helm anyway.

EDIT: wolfie, that was my thought exactly. ive actually posted a couple times in that thread, but instead of the niteshade, ill try to go reflective blue or silver

thats the second time ive posted while you were posting... im gonna start refreshing before i post, or this thread will turn into edit city

im gonna build the whole suit, and i will alternate between the H3 ODST and the H4 ODST concept helmets

I hadn't seen that thread yet. The new ODST helmet looks like a cross between Noble Six's and the H3 ODST...looks interesting!

didnt get to staples to get card stock today, maybe tomorrow.

ZMX: yeah, once its been unfolded, i will definitely go for it. but for now, the H3 ODST is my top priority

got card stock! I've got all the parts for the helmet printed out and im about to go and lock myself in my room with an x-acto knife for a while.

Minor Update:
i have 10 pages out of 17 cut out, im probably not going to get as much done in the next few weeks. ROTC and Rifle Team are starting up, and i will be busy every day for the next 2 weeks. but thats not going to stop me from getting some work done!

Don't you hate it when real life gets in the way of your fantasy??? Your on the right track man, I didn't do the low def models first and ended up pepping the hd's 2.5 times before I got it right. looking at your first first pic I think I would downsize a little, also one thing I did was make a brace to install between the " ears" in order to make the helmet a little wider. Good luck and I think you chose the best model for the odst ;)

yeah, it sucks. i dont even have it all cut out yet, school has been going full force and its only been a week. as for the brace, ill keep that in mind when i get the sizing right.

My plan for the undersuit is to use some Urban Digital BDUs. i want to go with gunmetal grey with a dark blue secondary color scheme, i also plan to throw some navy digital camo onto some of the small parts, but i dont know if it will look right with the undersuit, im still planning how i want it to look when im done.
