Wow they turned out very nice! Is that mirrachrome you're using?

beautiful build. the table looks great and those visors looked amazing. I thought those ear muffs where genius

So life happened again, but updates have happened.

I got the boots assembled, and a pair of shoes has been installed. Here is my take on the ridges in the center part. Glue some screws to the base.
102_4146_zps7994e326.jpg

Grab some leftover nylon webbing.
102_4142_zps4cc7f12f.jpg

And some clear tubing.
102_4143_zps0da1afe0.jpg

Fold the webbing in half, and staple it closed.
102_4144_zps45f31ec0.jpg

Slide the tubing into the webbing sleeve.
102_4145_zps9ed15495.jpg

Then glue them to the screws.

I also made the bottom detail out of silicone caulking. Very durable, and looks cool.

The boots are now finished.

So I went back through this thread and realized that I have no pictures of the full suit. So here are a few from Dragon Con last year.

Volpin's Needler was pretty awesome. But very heavy.

I was also able to commission Snakepit Studios to make an undersuit for me.

Its a one piece body suit made from a material very similar to under armor. It is dye sublimated, to the detail will not come off. They did a fantastic job on it, I highly recommend getting one.

More updates to come. I lave for this year's Dragon Con tomorrow morning.

Thanks guys. After a long evening of rushing to get it all together, I think it is done.

I was able to do some drybrush silver, and a blackwash. I am very pleased with the weathering results.

And here it is mounted on my duct tape dummy. All adjustments have been made. I tried everything on, but unfortunately can't take a picture of myself wearing it.
102_4253_zps3d17830a.jpg

The last upgrade was to get my speaker and microphone working properly. In the past I have tried using the Aker 1506 unit, and it works well, but the headset microphone always gave me issues when taking the helmet off and putting it on. It would never stayed positioned right. So I did some research, and was able to find a wireless transmitter to work with it. Here is the setup.
102_4251_zpsa4da326d.jpg

The microphone plugs into the Memorex wireless transmitter, and sends a signal to the Memorex receiver. The receiver then connects to the Aker speaker. I took the components out of the transmitter, and fit them in the brim of the helmet. All of the components stay in place now. It makes using it so much easier now.
102_4252_zpsf696acb8.jpg

Then I have the receiver and speaker positioned on the chest. It works perfectly now.
102_4254_zps4fa4eb76.jpg

I also had to come up with a place to carry my phone and wallet.
102_4258_zps76d4df18.jpg

Everything is all packed up and ready to hit the road in the morning. Dragon Con, here I come.

Hey Justinian, great build! By chance, I have recently be granted access to a 30W laser cutter. I was wondering how thick the foam you used was, and the settings you used for cutting the foam. Thanks a lot!

Hey JUSTINIAN, it's been a while since I've been active around the forums and I can see that the site's not the only new thing around here. I love your new suit, it looks amazing. I especially love the look of the ridging you have here in post 63, it's new and different a nice distinction from the usual toilet plungers.
Great Job man

Very nice! I need to get me some access to a laser cutter and a 3D Printer. I love making my stuff by hand but the time it takes is the downfall.

how did the electronic ear protection work to hear others? I've been brainstorming on what to do for an exterior mic so I can hear others. I use a set of those muffs when I shoot real steel and they make your hearing superhuman! I can hear people breathing, hear the TV from 3 rooms away, but I wasn't sure they'd work. Love to hear how it worked for ya.

After seeing this and have made a Mk VI using this file, I want to make mine look this good!
I only made a few minor modifications to the files. Most of the detail I added afterwords. You should be able to do it pretty easily.

I can cut up to 1/2" thick foam. I have a 50W laser, so you may need to to play with the settings. I run mine at 30% power and 10% speed. I make multiple passes to get through the desired thickness.
*gasps* how the heck have a i missed all of this!! very awesome Justin!
How have you missed this? I have been working on it for over a year lol.
looks great bud! I like the idea of the wireless receiver, might have to give that a go. :)
The wireless mic made such a huge difference. I highly recommend it.

Thanks. I am pretty pleased with the ridging. It holds up good, and is flexible.

A laser cutter and 3D printer make a big difference with time, but there is still a lot of finishing work required. As for the ear protection, it didn't work well. This was a very cheap pair, and it didn't filter out the loud noises, it would just turn off at a certain decibel. I ended up not using any of it. I higher end pair of noise cancelling ear muffs would work great though. I just didn't want to spend the money, just to rip them apart.

Dragon Con was a success! I got to hang out with a lot of great people, and meet some new people, finally. Here are some pictures that were taken of the suit.

And finally a Stony Props picture. Jim's got the gravity hammer, and Walter has his Destiny suit.

Everything worked out so perfectly, that I may be finished with this build. I think a photo shoot is in order.

That's fantastic! Thanks for sharing the photos. You've done a brilliant job on this project, from the pics I can't even tell that it's made of foam. The undersuit looks great too - is it more comfortable to wear than a thicker fabric like vinyl or a multi-layered padded undersuit?

Vinyl is probably the worst thing to wear, because it doesn't breathe. A multi-layered padded undersuit would also get pretty hot.

The undersuit I have is perfect. It is basically under armor. It is lightweight and breathes very well. I would highly recommend it to everyone.

When i said how did i miss this, i meant how did i miss the new stuff. I have been following this thread for a while and have even commented before. Sorry for not being more specific lol

BTW pics looks great :)
