A while ago I realized that it was highly unlikely my SPARTAN-III build would be completed by Haloween this year, so I decided that instead of going without a suit I would build something a little less ambitious with the time I had. So over the entire month of october I've been working on a suit of NCR Ranger Combat Armor. The reason I haven't posted a new thread on it sooner is because it's only begun to come together recently, so it's going to be cutting it close. I still think it's do-able, but don't ask me why in my mind it made more sense to start a completely new build instead of finish my current one, because I'm not sure myself. I'll be posting progress pictures when I can, but not much else until it's finished since I'm short on time. Wish me luck.

[Update] Finished pictures below. Pictures from Izumicon to follow.

Wow man that helmets looking impressive. Isn't the top resin and bondo? If so you have one of the first helm that I've seen with that and foam (not including craft details on pep helmets)

Hey rav! Awesome to finally see some pictures of this thing! It looks awesome, and pretty darn accurate too!

Good luck finishing your costume before Halloween, I hope you get it done on time. :)

Dude that seriously good! I can understand why you started something new rather than finish the Spartan armour, you're like me, not satisfied with doing one thing at a time and get too twitchy to get on with the next thing so you just start it :D
On a serious note though your foam skills are amazing. I wish the craft foam here in the Uk wasn't so expensive because I would be tempted to do another foam build using this technique after seeing yours, LiTyrants and RoxyRoos stuff.

Quick update everyone.

Magnetic hose/wire attachments.

Torso and backpack.

And a little extra.

Thanks Chainsaw Ninja, but the dome was actually made from cardboard and paper mache. But I don't think I've ever seen a combination build like my helmet before, whether it is cardboard and paper mache/foam or resin and bondo/foam.

Thanks Ed! Accuracy is what I strive for, so it's great to hear you say that!

Thanks Drack, and I was kinda getting a little weary of working on my SPARTAN build so it's good to do something different for a while. But I think once November comes I'm gonna take a short break from building. But I'd have to say the craft foam can quickly add to my builds expenses even here in the U.S.

Until next time y'all.

Here it is! Finally done and as ready as it will ever be. Sorry for the picture quality, my good camera died on me so I had to use my phone. Considering the time frame in which this was completed, I'm quite pleased with the outcome. It was a difficult build to devise and put together in less than a months time, and while it's not as well made as I would have liked it should hold up well for it's debut at Izumicon in Oklahoma City this weekend. Not to say it's falling apart, it just could have been easier to put on. The armor was entirely scratch built from EVA foam and detailed with craft foam. I wasn't able to make the duster myself, but my amazing mother made it possible for my costume to narrowly reach its deadline by making it herself. The holster is foam and attached with thin women's belts. I also purchased a toy gun online to replace my Hunting Rifle as there just wasn't time for me to finish it. Hand painted the armor and some strapping which turned out to be easier than I expected, thankfully. I also made a last minute addition to the costume, the pouch/bag in the above image will add some much needed storage space. The holster, pouch and helmet use rare earth magnets to clasp together/close and work fairly well, though the costume overall used nearly 100 magnets the size of a pencil eraser.
