edwardjlw's Iron Man Build

Hello again!

Been a while since I've been active here but I am still alive! There's been a lot going on in my life the last few months, so I haven't had a lot of time for projects like these, but I look forward to getting back into it. For a little while I've been thinking about doing an iron man build, and sure enough, I was watching The Avengers a few weeks back and my inspiration was re-ignited! The eventual goal is to build a full Mk 7 suit, though I'm not planning to rush this build. It'll get done whenever it gets done.



I quickly got to work putting together a couple of size tester helmets to check the scale. After two versions I was confident with my final scale.



And here's the final piece all pepped out.



A cool shot with the faceplate open. I'm hoping to install a small servo motor to open and close the faceplate with the push of a button.









Very happy with the helmet so far, I've assembled all the sections so I'm hoping to resin and fibreglass at some stage tomorrow, and while all that's curing I might start pepping out the pieces for the gauntlet. Thanks for taking a look, until next time

Minor update

I spent the last couple days resining and fibreglassing the helmet. All went well, at the moment I'm waiting to let it fully cure before applying any bondo.
I've also been working slowly on pepping the forearms, and I hope to get most of these pieces done in the next few days. I'm really not looking forward to it, but I know at some point I'll have to have a shot at putting the hand plates together. Should be alright as long as I go slow, but man those handplates have some tiny pieces!

Minor update here, been pretty busy the last few weeks but I've managed to make a bit of progress on the helmet. I was constantly adding bondo and sanding and repeating, working in small sections to smooth out the piece and try and get the right shape. Once I got the main shape sculpted I moved on to finer fillers and sandpaper to try and smooth out the surface and get a nice finish.

As you can see, there's still quite a bit of sanding and filler ahead of me, but I'm really happy so far the way the helmet's shaping up. The bulk of the work's done, from here it's just filling cracks and minor details. And of course the eye, cheek and ear inserts need to be made, but that will wait until after the faceplate is removed Until next time!
