I started playing FFXIV lately (for the glams of course) and instantly wanted to do a cosplay.
I also bought a 3d printer and was experimenting with new modeling programs so this is the result of that.

the unfortunate mess that was 3 cents worth of filament that i was charged 30 cents for by the school for their printing services.

My friend printed a better one with their printer.

I bent it to the shape of my forehead using a hairdryer to soften the plastic (feat pride flags).

Got myself an ender 3 and printed some better ones.

Sliced the horn to print in two parts and printed the rear half.

Printed the front and held it up to my ear as a mock up.

Here's the front for the other side, I realized i needed to be printing on rafts to give a more flat bottom as well as not have the supports fall over during the printing process.

Mockup with both horns, the poses I can do and still look nice while using both my hands to hold these up are very limited. (also forgot my glasses existed)

I had to bend the bases a lot to be less tilted out so ill be editing the files for future use.

Separate post about the 3d modeling process.
First version, eyeballing it with some imported references.

2nd version using game rip modified for smoothness and some major texture features (pre texturing).
Screenshot 2022-09-30 150727.png
used a sculpting program to make it more organic.

Extrusion of sketch over scale pattern -> bent into a bit more shape.

used the sculpting program to texture the scale part, then scraped it and tried for a more accurate version then increased the subdivisions to make it smoother.

Forehead scale extruded from sketch.

Everything combined in a file.

Following with interest.
Will you be selling/putting the files up anyplace when youve got something you like? I know a FFXIV Free Company that would print these in a hot second :)

Possibly selling? if you personally are interested in printing some though I'll give you the file.
It will be a hot minute till I reprint them to test the edited file though.
I'm also modeling some of the other au'ra horns for a friend as well.

Well for a prototype this is decent, it needs some more padding and to be more sturdily attached to the wire though. It hooks over the ear and then comes down.

Here's some pics of them on me. I was having fun getting to wear them.

Unfortunately today one of the horns fell of the band so I am attempting to repair that.

That's high praise!! I'd certainly be willing to sell files to them if they're interested, although I don't have any of the other au'ra sets done yet.

If anyone has any model requests for me to make printable lmk. im doing the rest of the fem au'ra horns plus the antiquated seventh heaven circlet already for some other people. might throw in the masc au'ra horns but idk.

Guess whos back, back again...
I've been modelling another set of horns and a face scale for one of my friends, she uses the extra scales mod so I didn't include face scales as part of the model or she wouldn't be able to open her mouth. however I did include the forehead scale from the extra scales mod, which is currently printing on my 3d printer.
Anyway have some pictures.

Anyway, I wont be able to tell if they look right till I print them so that's what I'll be doing as soon as I figure out the headband situation and how to secure them to heads. also once I figure out that I think I'll be throwing either files or kits up on etsy so I can make some passive money (and so everyone can enjoy them but that's besides the point).

More updates or something.
Printed out the face scale as a test, I'm satisfied with it. For references I print scales flat then bend them to my forehead shape with a hairdryer.

I also prototyped some new attachment methods for my horns since the paint bucket handle I bent to be a headband was rather uncomfortable even for short periods of time. I ended up printing out attachments meant for Bluetooth earbuds and testing them. picture 2 is the one I went with in the end.

The horns still get uncomfortable after an hour or so since its just plastic but once I add some padding I think it will be way better.

My partner informed me that I am a scalie now (definitely true) so that's cool. I'll also be making a tail for this costume eventually and I have some fun plans for that which will result in me learning about how to sew 3d prints and cloth together, I have some other plans too for things i could add to this costume but those require me to go buy different types of filament and cloth so probably won't do those yet. Anyway I'm having a lot of fun with this project, and I'm learning a lot.
