me and a friend , we'll be making the halo reach assault rifle , since we both love halo , it was a mutual decision , he just happens to know some basics on woodwork , so the plan is making a wood main body and add all the details with cardboard , we havent done much yet , the wood body may be done in the next 2 weeks
the model we're using

and some early details i've made for the cardboard

Looks solid so far, you might want to consider poplar wood; it has virtually no grain and is easy to cut.

actually , i think that's the wood my friend will be using , if not , i'll recommend it to him , thanks ! :)

my friend made the basic "quick-template" out of compressed wood (that's what he sait it was called)
so i marked the parts that needed to be cut off , reduced or sanded as well as the cylinder-grip (i marked all of them with red)
the handle itself feels comfortable while holding it , ant the size is nice (not sure it its game size ... probably not)
but anyway my friend estimated that he'll have everything traced and started cutting on another piece of wood that's 1" or 3/2" approximately
tell me what you think so far of it
later

Looking good so far, what you might want to do is go to the Halo Reach Viking M19 Thread over in the Pro forums. I asked the creator a few questions about woodwork, and he was quick to reply with many helpful tips. That might be something to consider, and with the cardboard work, you might want to consider a bondo and fiberglass coat if you are doing electronics, possibly just rondo is no electronics. Good luck, I'm keeping tabs on this one :D

update , i'm back

well, it's been a while, as you can see , i've changed the title from wood and cardboard AR to cardboard AR
well, my friend who was helping me out with the wooden structure , but he moved, so ... he couldn't help me anymore ... so , i did the structure myself, i also glued all the pieces together
IMG-20121212-00517.jpg

also , the upper pieces are being pepped

IMG-20121212-00513.jpg

as you can see that's not fiberglass, i ran out of resin ... and money , so i used a coat of white glue inside and then used toilet paper and used glue so it would harden

i got a few pieces of cardboard and scratchbuilt the middle connection section of the upper pieces for extra strength

i also built the middle upper piece out of ceral box cardboard

i also made a base for the ammo counter to sit on, all put together looks like this

hope everyone likes it, tell me what you think so far, all kinds of feedback are welcome!

If you want a working ammo counter, contact thatdecade here in the forums. If you just want a backlight, you could just use any LED basicly. Good luck, it looks epic so far.
