Hey all! It’s me again!
So chip’s finally going to get some upgrades, the first of which is a bigger helmet for my planet of a head. Cybercraft have released an ODST helmet alongside their chief helmet. I’ll post what is effectively a review of the helmet and my plans for it.
Starting off with the look itself. It’s based on The Rookie from the ODST game, standard dark translucent visor, and a decent paintjob.
I do have minor gripes with the helmet, like lacking detailing, especially around the vents. I half think is is due to the fact that when I was speaking to Kei in customer service (excellent service by the way), I mentioned that I was likely to respray it.
Inside we have this very cosy, fleece lined interior, which I really cannot fault. I love the interior.
However, it’s lacking any kind of ventilation as is, but this may be fixed in future, and is something I’m going to be changing about the helmet.
My plan is, remove the visor, cover the visor area, as I want that two tone seen in game, drill out the vents and back them with mesh, installing fans behind that.
Respray the entire helmet gloss black, add in chip’s yellow stripes, hand paint details and round off with some silver dry brush and a clear coat pass.
Coming back to the visor, we’ll hit it with a light coating of mirrored effect silver (there’s a thread from Deviss65 on how to do this)
Reinstall the visor and call it a day.
For helmets, I’ll leave a link here: Halo Rookie Helmet / Cosplay Helmet / Game Helmet / Halo 3 ODST
