Alright guys, I have started pepping my personal Halo 2 ODST torso (more parts soon). So far I have completed the center section on the chest. Pictures will be posted soon [4-7 days (school is starting!)].

And also, if anyone on this forum lives in Shunyi, China, could they please give me some advice or info on finding resin, fiberglass, a respirator and Bondo?

Thanks!

Not sure what advice we can give you on getting materials in China since most of us are not from that part of the world. I sugges you look into using EVA foam. No fiberglass or resin is needed. Yiu just need to worry sealing the foam. Most US foam comes from China so it should be easy. Look at my videos in my YouTube channel for a quick tutorial on using foam.

Thanks CoolC! I'll look into it! (BTW lots of things made in China are not available in China :) Just letting you know)

PICTURESSSSSSS!!!!!!

This is the chest piece so far (Front view)

The temporary slash I cut in the back of the neck for wearability (Hole too small for head - Anyone have ideas on how to fix that?):

I might get some more done on saturday/friday (school and skyrim :)) I also might switch to a different piece for a bit; Who knows!
And as mentioned above the last pic, does anyone have advice on how to fit my head through the neck hole? Like a slash, or mechanism I can put there?

I am also curious, however, as to how people do the foam armor at all! Do they have templates that they cut the foam to? Do they just use reference pics? If anyone knows, please explain this to me so the possibility of foam can be opened to me :)

Pep looks good so far, clean folds and it seems to be holding together well.

The best advice I can give you for foam is to watch Ben Streeper's videos on how to work with foam. go to this thread http://www.405th.com/showthread.php/28434-Foam-Armoring?highlight=streeper and watch the youtube videos he put up. They explain the process nicely.

Also, use the search function and look up Halogoddess. read through her KAT build, she explains how she used foam (With pictures).

As for finding resin and bondo, if there are any stores near you that sell or repair boats they probably have fibreglass and resin. Another place to look is shops that sell auto parts and/or repair vehicules.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Nessy!
I'm gonna start watching Ben's videos, and see what he says. Thanks for the referral as well!
But I might switch armor types if I start using EVA foam...

PICS coming in 1-2 days! (done some more work) I will get another chunk done tomorrow/saturday! (ITS LOOKING SO COOL).

Also, does anyone think that watered-down elmer's glue (used for pinatas) with work like a weaker version of resin? I'm trying to make non-toxic armor.

(PICS COMING SOON)

Looks good so far. I've seen Stealth use watered down Elmer's glue for foam, but haven't seen it used for pep before.

Looking good so far, as for having the hole to small for your head, I'd have leave the whole there and either put some sort of elastic strapping and cover it some how. Or make a hinged clasp that opens on when end and when you have it on, you snap the clasp shut.

The only problem I can see with that is that the back plate attaches directly to the two pieces I separated by a slash. When I harden it, it wont be able to bend closer or farther apart, so the clasp will become obsolete with my unbend-able armor. I was also thinking of trimming a bit of the neck-hole's collar piece that sticks down into the suit. That would open the hole a bit. But thanks for the idea, Metalfire!

Thanks guys! Pics will be posted tomorrow, and I will test out the elmer's glue method on something!

Here is some of my crappy pepping, I was a bit tired and just wanted to get it over with :)

Now..... time for SHINS AND SHOULDERS!
I might start pepping them soon, but the SHOULDERS are REALLY easy. I might get them done later today or tomorrow!

So I tried out the whole "watered-down-glue" thing but I couldn't get the ratio right. Might try using my new found 3:1 ratio by Wednesday......

I have also decided to pep the helmet before the shins and shoulder pieces, so progress pics will be up within a week!

Looks good so far. I've seen Stealth use watered down Elmer's glue for foam, but haven't seen it used for pep before.

The reason Stealth uses glue on foam is to create a better painting surface. plain foam would just soak up paint, so the glue is used to fill all the tiny holes in the foam. Then there is a nice smooth surface to paint on, and you save alot of paint.

There is a non-toxic version of resin, look for acrylic resin. The only brand I know of is Aqua resin, here is their website http://www.aquaresin.com/. It should work just as well as regular resin but without the toxic fumes. It is more expensive than regular resin though.

The only thing I am worried about with Aqua Resin is the cost (which you have told me) and the fact that it is water based, so I need to completely seal up my armor. Problem is, I have no clue how to seal all the tiny holes! Does anyone know what to use to waterproof armor?
Thanks!

Alright guys, I have already cut out and folded all of the pieces that go to the helmet, so progress pics should come up in a few days. Still havent gotten around to the watered-down glue method, but i will test it once i pep a real quick shoulder piece (they take 2 minutes). I'll post results soon!

After painting most people use a clear coat to help protect their paintjob. I assume that it would also prevent water from getting into the finished pieces. I never got to that stage myself, but maybe another reader will post what they used on their build. If not, post that question in the Stickied Painting Questions thread.

Okay, this update has no photos, but I have cut and folded all the nesecary pepakura parts for the helmet, but I havent started gluing yet. (i am sick right now).\\

BUT

I will probably get it all glued/big chunk glued on Tuesday (CHINESE NEW YEAR WEEK-LONG BREAK!!!). I might also get some more done on Friday.

Get well soon and happy new year! Is it the year of the Dragon this year? I think it is because I'm turning 24...

Okay guys.
First of all, IM FEELING BETTER (yay!)
Second of all, I finished pepping the helmet last Sunday! (yay!)
Third of all, PICTURESSSSSS (too lazy to post them earlier XD)

Also, does anyone know of any conventions that happen in Beijing where halo armor would be appropriate? That or in Utah? If there are any conventions in Utah (SLC/Provo) please let me know!

Thanks!
