Hey all! I've been lurking on these here forums for awhile waiting to join, and registration just opened up recently, so here I am! I've been working on my own custom set of Reach armor much like what I have customized on my profile on live. I've got a CQC helmet and some other stuff. Here's what I'm going for:

I already finished pepping and resining the helmet, I need to take pictures for you guys of it resined, but here it is with me wearing it at about 90%:

I practiced pepping/resining/rondoing/bondoing/sanding a Halo 3 handplate. I don't have any pics after resining though... I'll get those for you guys too...

Pep complete, little bit of warpage...

And Resined

I have a few more pics...

Just working on stuff at 2AM like a good college kid. Starting a forearm, Rondo'd/sanded handplate, finishing up the helmet.

Break times! LoveIt.

Oh. And also, the helmet I have now is not my first attempt. I started with an unfold done by nintendude, but it didn't work out since there were parts missing on the unfold and such... blah. I had to scrap it. It sucked because it was my first pep and I put lots of work into it...

But yeah. I'm hoping to have everything finished before our college age "fireworks war" in the beginning of July, so I've got lots of work to cram in... at least that's what I hear, baha!

I feel like I'm forgeting something, but yeah. For now, enjoy, and please, input.

Very very nice job I'm impressed! I'd love to see some updated pictures of your work so far. Was this your first build?

Thanks dudeman! Yeah, this is my very first build, never done anything like this before, haha.

And as for the updated pictures, here they is for the helmet. I just rondo'd it!

Did all this yesterday! I started bondoing today, but it got late and dark and I ran out of battery for my dremel, soooo I just kinda stopped till I went and got a new WIRED dremel. I'd recommend a wired one, since those battery ones just don't last long at allllll.

I also was able to finish and resin a forearm:

It's super warped, but I hate pepping enough that I'm willing to do a crapton of bondoing to fix the warpage.

I also found a new workspace in the garage to do stuff! So instead of bondo and resin outside under a tree that sheds, I can work without the wind being a tool!

And some misc stuff:
IMG_0143.jpg

Already have my visor in! She's blue, but I may end up tinting it for a darker mirror blue... It may be too big to fit in the helmet as well, but hopefully it won't snap when I try to shove it in...
IMG_0141.jpg

I also rushed through the pre-painting tutorial for the handplate for practice... I might just make the reach handplates and actually try to do a good job with those.
IMG_0144.jpg

I also have the primary color ready! I got a custom color from a local shop here in Joplin. They were pretty awesome and asked for me to come back in when I'm done with the suit so they could take a picture and hang it up, haha! I'll probably go back whenever I need something else, they've got all kinds of stuff I'll need later on!

So that's it for now. I'm starting on my chest now and I'm gonna find some reach handplates before I go to bed tonight. Enjoy the pictures for now!!

Update time! I feel like I've been taking awhile on an update, so I'm going to show you guys where I'm at right now and where I hope to be. I made a timeline for when I need to get stuff done so that I'm not just chillin, thinking I've got plenty of time... which, as of right now, I'm quite a ways behind. Here's the whiteboard:
IMG_0152.jpg

So I'm wanting to get everything pepped by the 23rd which really doesn't give me much time... pepping sucks. If anyone has any ideas on how to speed up the process, it'd be much appreciated! I don't know if there's some sort of cutting service I could find in town or something so I don't spend hours just cutting my peps out. Have I mentioned I hate pepping? Cause I do. I digress.

Here's what I've got so far, not really too much of an update, but hopefully after the weekend and Tuesday/Wednesday, I should have a pretty good update for y'all:
IMG_0149.jpg

Handplates both pepped, probably going to resin later today...

IMG_0150.jpg

been doing a ton of bondo and sanding on my helmet. I finally got part of it pretty well straightened out, but I'm having a harder time with stuff more around the ears/visor. Here's what I'm talking about:
IMG_0151.jpg

It's difficult getting to that part just below the visor. I can't really touch it with a dremel, and sanding by hand is somewhat of a pain. I'm probably going to have to tough it out and sand by hand, but I'm open to suggestions. Also, that smaller part where the visor ends, any suggestions on sanding inside that guy? Should I just take some sandpaper and fold it inside, or has anyone done something else more effective?

Either way, I'm hoping to make this a two part update for today(Saturday that is... pulling an all-nighter to get some good sleep tonight), so here's what I'm doing right now... pepping;
IMG_0147.jpg

Here's how much of the chest I have done. Hope to have most of it done today... Ideally completed, but I'm not sure how patient I'll be by the time I start going on the chest today...
IMG_0145.jpg

And pepping the other forearm. Just cutting it out. Two pages left.
IMG_0146.jpg

Also, my first McDonald's coffee. I heard in blind taste tests that it was the best in the nation('merica!), so I gave it a try and was pretty impressed. Green Mountain Coffee is still way better.

Sooooo, hopefully I'll be disciplined enough to give you guys a good second part of this update tonight...

Sanding, Hand, File, detail sander, Dremel with flex tube< sorry can't remember name off the top of my heard. You should get a mouse sander no mater what just for the large flat areas. Other than that it's looking good so fare.

Looking good, dudeman! Keep up the good work, and I'd suggest a metal file or hand-sanding for the tough-to-reach places. That's my plan for my EVA helmet anyway! Also, loving the two-tone color scheme you've got going on for the pep!
