Thought i'd give this project its own thread. I'm currently building my own ODST armour for use in paintball games. To go with it I wanted at least one halo weapon that would actually work. Deciding a pistol would probably be the easiest to create I had a look at all the different types of pistol in the games and chose the M6G as the back end looked pretty similar to the Tippmann TIPX that I own and would only need a shroud building for the front.
Working from just that image I placed the pistol on a 7mm camping mat and traced the outline. I then sketched in the parts that would make the shroud, cut them out and laid them on the pistol to check for size.
Happy with the size I calculated that I would need to make the shroud in 6 slices to get the correct width of the pistol. I cut all of those out, and then started modifying each slice to properly fit the pistol. I started with the lower innermost slices and chopped off all the excess parts so they hugged the center of the pistol. Then moved onto the next two slices which didnt need any modifying apart from a wedge cutting out to fit around the picatinny rail. Finally I cut out the outer slices which would make the body of the lower shroud, glued them all together and fitted them to the pistol.
Considering i'm a complete newbie to this sort of thing I'm very happy with the results! The hand guard doesnt quite reach the grip, but this is deliberate. The magazine needs to slide in and out freely, so I can't attach to foam to the mag. Instead, when I come to finishing the pistol I will be covering the foam in sheets of plasticard, so I can use that to attach the guard to the grip itself. The plasticard will also hide all of the slices and give nice straight edges.
With that done I repeated the process for the upper shroud, cutting the slices, modifying each one to make it fit and glued them all together.
The final thing to do was cut the upper shroud so it had the angled edges, these arnt very neat, but again, once it has a sheet of plasticard glued to it you wont be able to tell. I'll also be adding details to the shroud in plasticard, but for now, i'm finished until the postman comes with the card! Any advice, comments, criticisms etc are welcomed
