The scout helmet iv been working on is almost finished so as I add the final touches to that iv been working on a new project... The standard chest piece from Halo Reach.

The plan is to make a mould of the finished piece as I need about 6 copies of it, so a lot of time has been spent getting the pep work as accurate as possible... In fact I spent almost half a day with the big lolly pop sticks and hot glue gun making sure the armour is totally squar and not distorted in any way.

To make it a bit easier I made up smaller sub sections of the armour, and on the larger flat surfaces I added balsa wood batons soaked in superglue to the back in an effort to keep the flat pieces flat

The sticks on the outside will be removed once the Rondo is done, I'll leave most the ones on the inside as I won't need to wear this piece.

Why do you need so many copies?

The last thing I did to get the model square was to hot glue it to my cutting mat, using the grid as a reference.

The parts of the card that look wet in the pictures have in fact had superglued applied. A small spot of superglue makes the card rock hard so once I had some pieces assembled and I was sure they were correct I added a few dabs of superglue to make sure they didn't move when assembled with the other pieces.

I play in a paintball team and we want some matching armour for some of the events we are planning to attend this year. Once iv cast the pieces they will need to be back backed with GRP so they can take a paintball hit and not break.

Thanks for the kind words guys, it took about 30 hours to get it to this point :-/
Sumofl - it's all cut and scored by hand buddy, normally with a scalpel blade and a ruler

Oh so thats what that is? I always just lightly scored each fold line. I was wondering why a lot of people had the red and blue edges, I just always assumed they printed out that way.

I score all my holds with a 0.7mm ball point pen, red for valley folds, blue for mountain folds (unless I loose one of the colours and then it's what ever I have to hand at the time lol)
its seems to work well and give sharp enough fold lines.

model is in the garage at the moment, I'll put pics up later of the resin work.

Thought I would leave a little tip. Using the the read and blue pen method is really not needed at all. Or even using a pen to do the scoring. If you take the back of your scalpel, and flip it over you can score it that way. It also works for those who use x-acto blades. Thought i would share that. By eliminating the scoring with a pen, it decreases the amount of time you will spend assembling your pep. For my straight edge, I prefer to use a plastic triangle. In my opinion plastic is a lot smoother, and is a easier on your blades when running your blades along side your straight edge. Nice pep! Keep up the good work.

Thanks buddy, it took such a long time to put together and I'm please with how it's going. GRP = glass reinforced plastic... Fibreglass
I mostly use chop strand matt but will prob use a number of layers of cloth for this project
