Would it be a wise/useable way to make a mold out of hot glue you would it just kinda like crumble???

ive never heard of this before but I dont think it would crumble but would cost a fortune in gluesticks..LOL why gluesticks anyway? if you looking for a cheap solution try that home depot clear silicone mixed with a bit of water baced paint it stinks like hell (use outside) but i have molds going on 3 years from that stuff and is about 4 bucks a tube.

Someone actually made thread about this back in the day, appearently it worked well but the glue just wasnt flexible enough.. also you would have to use a release agent like crazy since it is glue... usually glue is supposed to stick to stuff right?

And Pmander, i dont live in the states myself, but the rumor goes that the gluesticks cost barely anything there, as for my... aww... 5 dollars for 6 small sticks..

If you guys want to make a proper mold, go with silicone molding rubber, yes it's expensive, but so is this hobby.

Considering you can get glue sticks at some craft stores for 10 cents a piece, and 30-40 for huge giant sticks, you could mold from it. You would want to vaseline the heck out of the helmet as a release agent, but I have no clue what type of cast material you would use from there. You could use "rondo" a mix of resin and bondo, but I'm afraid it being so thin, it might just eat away the vaseline, or mix with it and cure onto the hot glue.

Smoothcast 300 might work, but I'm not sure how it cures, everyone uses this stuff to make cast, but i dont know if it has any type of heat reaction when mixed together.

the mud mixture will not eat away the vaseline......hotglue might work on a smaller item but you might get air bubbles also, but it wouldnt hurt to try but try to vaseline the piece 1st do a very thin coat of it

I wish I had a handplate, but too lazy to make one right now while working on a HD helmet. I've already made small "mother molds" of hot wheel cars from the side, they do capture all the detail just fine, but I didnt continue from there. I might try this, doing a helmet maybe in 2 parts, or maybe 4 just for easier removal of the pieces after the hot glue dries and hardens. Then just "glue" the pieces into a 2 part half mold. If done half an inch thick to a full inch, it will be strong enough to hold itself up. You wouldnt need to fiberglass the outside to help keep the interior shape.

Handplate almost Sanded fully.

After that, i will take the handplate and cover the top in hot glue, then get a small tray, and fill that with hot glue, and place the handplate (With the hot glue (now hard)) into the tray of hot glue, then i shall put it in a fridge, freezer or whatever.

My only issue is. will the hot glue stick to the original handplate and actually not 'pop' out?

if so, is there some sort of Spray or wax i can put on the handplate before smothering it in glue?

The casts will be made from very thick rondo, and alot of it. and ill most probabily hot glue the inside just to give it that extra bit of support.

Im trying to find ways of making castng cheap for the people who cant afford all the Proper equipment

Be sure to fiberglass the inside of the rondo piece for extra strength, bondo and resin together arent super strong alone.

Make sure you lightly vaseline the hand plate so you dont rip the hot glue off the hand and potentially destroy one or the other.

Thanks, i was wondering what i should put on it to stop them fusing... Vaseline... Right...

noo noo noo, iv had that idea and i used a mold of a ball i made like a 1 inch ball, it took like 3-4 glue sticks and it comes out rough as hell, and i bet if you tried making using it in a large mold the outcome would be some mutant bendy thing lol

So in the end i say dont do it man its a waist of glue sticks and they can get spendy after a wile

I dont know if this has been brought up or not. It's stupid to mold with hot glue with a glue gun, OF COURSE it comes out distorted. Before the glue sets evenly, it dries. You need to melt the glue in a tin can over a portable stove in mass.
