Mk-5 Armor Question

I have a quick question about the mk-5 armor that i have never found an answer for, if you look at the mid section of the armor between the cod and the plate below the chest piece are those pouches or are the armor of some sort?

Those my friend are indeed pouches. The chief uses them to store grenades and ammo. On the mark 6 there are slots in the thighs for that purpose.

They are indeed pouches. For my Mark V I used a belt of pouches I got at the army surplus store for like $10.

Good, i didn't know how to model that thing right because its so dark but i don't have to now.
