I thought I'd send out a notice for others in case anyone else has recently struggled with Rustoleum Light Gray Auto Primer: I could be mistaken, but I suspect that it has been reformulated and no longer works properly with plastic. I experienced this problem under the exact same conditions I have always used for this paint for over the last 10 years. Very suddenly it's crazing like... crazy.
:/ I ruled out surface dust, temperature, humidity, surface prep, heaviness of coat... and the crazing stayed consistent. I couldn't find any reason for the behavior, I just had to switch to a different primer (Rustoleum 2x Primer for Plastic). When a product you've been using without fault for that long suddenly develops an issue that you can't rule out, I have to cast suspicion toward the manufacturer. If anyone else can shed some light on this, I'd love to know more about it, but in the meantime the other primer I've switched to is working nicely... though it doesn't sand nearly as well.
