Pepakura Divide Faces question / problem Spartan laser

Hey guys.

Quick question. I was unfolding a pep piece, and i'm not the most experienced in pep, so I figured I would ask this question. When I went to divide a piece to make it fit, I found I could only divide it certain ways. (from corner to corner) and not from different points along lines. Now, I may just be missing something, but I would really like to be able to split a piece straight down the middle, instead of having a zig - zag of edges. Any suggestions? techniques? or a just plain, "you can't do that" would be fine. Thanks guys.

*EDIT* One more question/problem.

I thought that I would be fine just dividing the pieces as they were, using only the corners, however, I ran into a problem.

As you can see, the corner of the triangle sticks out past the page boundary. The green line is the only place I can further divide the piece, but would still not do the trick. How can I fix this?

Any other suggestions to fix this? thanks

Looks like spartan laser to me.

EDIT: IT IS A SPARTAN LASER! The round thing in the pattern gave it away. I'm working on one, too.

Here's my suggestion: re-scale your pattern. The Spartan Laser is meant to be 98.8 cm long. Yours is more than 103 cm. Shortening the length will certainly make the that triangle fit.

It is. it is. Not my model though. But something I would def. like to unfold and assemble

EDIT: Scaled down the laser to about a length of 99cm. That triangle does fit. Thanks for the suggestion. Hopefully I won't have any problems with the other pieces.

Nothing wrong with that. I'm using a 3D model that's freely available on the Internet.

I'm using a different and a bit more detailed model but I'm running more than a few problems with open edges. I'm trying to learn how to fix them using Sketchup but I may have to move to another 3d modeling program like Milkshape or Blender. I can build the weapons now but I won't be able to release the pep files in their current state. Not cool at all.

I started to try to build a little with Wings 3D because i'm usually a big fan of Sourceforge.net / GNU etc.

but soon I found that I was more limited in some areas that other programs did a better job of.

Sketchup was my next favorite after that, but for some reason i'd always end up with tiny scattered holes throughout my models that I couldn't close up. Idk why, I'm just a noob at 3D modeling anyways.

Yeah, that still bugs me. I don't like leaving stuff hanging over, but sometimes it is unavoidable.
I don't like things spanning over two pages or more either . The only part that I can tolerate is the support strut since it'll taken out later.

It might be possible to add a line in the model using Pep Designer that will allow us to cut through it. Assuming that you haven't unfolded the model, go to Edit Mode -> Edit Model. Click on Divide Edge and select the edge where you want to add a line and it will do so. I haven't actually used that feature for this purpose but it might work.
