In case anyone was wondering here is a compilation of all of the things that went down during Pride. It should be public knowledge for anyone sitting on the fence. It contains screenshots of how ownership treated staff.

It‘ol probably be removed. I’ll probably be banned.

Sic semper tyrannis.

A - "General Halo Discussion" is not the place for stirring the pot.
B - Stirring the pot just isn't needed. Let it go, move on, that was a long time ago, there's no reason to try to keep wounds fresh and feelings bad.
If you have a problem with management either leave or work your way up into *being* management and make changes from within.
The rest of us are working under the concept that this is a costume group not a political party.

If I were inclined to offer a suggestion it would be to stick with your own statement of being welcoming and ensuring fun. Not in trying to stir up sh•t or starting threads intended to cause trouble.

Just one man's opinion.

Oh no being a costume group means you don't have to take decisions as a group and just dictate what YOU want? Go **** yourself ur nothing but an ******* that clearly doesn't mind living in a world of injustice with no consideration for the rest of the majority that dissagrees. We're not puppets that has to remain quiet when higher ups takes drastic decisions without considering anybody else. The idea of this group was supposed to be inclusivity, love for a shared passion and game. Now with leaders like this, that just can't happen so why would we stay quiet when we loved this group and simply were hoping to see a mature resolution? Which we obviously didn't get and why would I hope for maturity from Art and you when clearly this is a lost cause from 2 very selfish and immature people? What a joke. "Move on". Ur just saying that cauz you don't care for anyone and you just want things to go your way.

I second and support this statement

I ask that everyone watch the language and keep the conversation civil.

Thank you for your opinion, I’ll take it into consideration. Here is my consideration…

I have brought this conversation to General Halo Discussion as it is a general discussion about the state of our Halo community. It was moved here from messages and pleas that have been ongoing for months with absolutely no response or accountability from ownership. As there are larger things now happening (I’ll get to that in a minute), a general discussion about the state this has brought to the community is needed.

This topic isn’t about politics or Pride. It is about our leadership team being completely and totally disrespected, not listened to, and left unable to represent the members we were in charge of representing.

In the topic of being welcoming and fun. Practice what you preach. I, along with several other members, have seen you post bigoted things on the Discord. That doesn’t seem very welcoming or fun. You have had countless interactions where you have put down peoples work, their purchases, etc. that isn’t a positive or fun vibe. I’m willing to be better if you are.

I’ll also be sure to weigh your opinions with equal standing with the bigoted comments you’ve left in the Discord. Lots of folks saw them, I’m fairly sure someone has been screenshotting them. I can probably track them down and post them here too if you’d like… but I don’t think that is needed as your reputation for them has become well known.

I’m not trying to keep wounds fresh or feelings bad. For months, along with other members of regimental leadership, I have been trying to work with ownership.

To your point of rising to positions to guide change and make the community better… we all did. Those positions of leadership were collectively ignored, dismissed, and disrespected.

For months our divisional leadership teams have collectively been working to keep members of our community together and happy. All I’m doing now is a last ditch effort to show the replies we have been met with in those attempts. If we can’t move through this issue, we have been told to leave and move around it (more on that later).

Maybe you’d like to provide some more bits of hatred and alienation to members of our community and out yourself here too? I’m willing to speak openly if you are, after all… all we ever wanted was an open truthful conversation… I’ll take your real thoughts over the one in lieu of one with Art. Don’t be afraid, you’ll probably continue to be welcome here.

As for quoting my past position goal (I forgot to change that, thanks for the reminder, I’ll change that as soon as I have a moment) and my leaving…

You’re late to the party. All of Canada has quit over this. Fairly sure that is just the start. I’m not alone, we’ll form another community. You’re more than welcome to join it, along with anyone else, but we have a zero tolerance policy for discrimination of any kind.

I will keep this as brief and to the point as I can. As I think this encapsulates the issue at hand and because I don't like the political messaging that the topic at hand brings about for almost everyone.

"Zero Tolerance for Discrimination" is a very slippery slope. and I would find it easy to be discriminated against by many on the forum if the conversation became political.

because my personal beliefs, opinions, voting habits, or lifestyle should not impact how I interact with someone here on the forum or with members at a Con or meet-up. because these are not the reason I am here. I am here because I love Halo, and because I love making Halo costumes.

Using our group identity as the "405th" to push any message. no matter how right. no matter how good-intentioned. no matter how inclusive. This will lead to more issues in the future. Because you can never do enough to be all-encompassing, without being totally impartial.

I am sure there are plenty of people that make up our community. from every kind of walk of life. young and old, religious or atheist, right left or center, rich or poor, and of every flavor of sexual orientation and attraction.

To come to the conclusion that trying to be impartial is a rejection of a group feels short-sighted. Particularly when it has to do with "official" branding. I am more than happy to be a part of the 405th, but the 405th isn't mine. The site is owned. And trying to dictate to the owners how they should operate won't get anyone any benefit.

I do understand the heart behind why you want to do/promote these things. But I just don't want what little I have in life free from the political conversation to be tainted with politics.

What politics are we discussing here guys?

It was a long time ago -- as you are welcome to read in the provided archive, nothing has happened for months. I know some people hoped everyone would just forget, but that's not how things work.
Yes, one has to be understanding that volunteers can only work so fast alongside their IRL commitments-- but I argue that the pace was set by leadership when they "needed to get ahead of" an event and announced three days before it began.

Change from within can only happen when those in leadership are willing to hear criticism and change and grow. When two RCOs have been banned without comment, what more can we expect to achieve?
I will also underline, on the chance that you refuse to read for yourself, that all that was asked of from leadership was understanding and consistency.
Understanding about why assets previously approved by DCO and DIO, that had been in use for years, were no longer allowed-- and consistency that this clarification on our Guidelines be applied universally.
Attempting to figure out the new guidelines and work within them was labelled "looking for loopholes".

If I were inclined to offer a suggestion it would be to stick with your own statement of being welcoming and ensuring fun.
We are incredibly welcoming, which we will be able to prove since the Canadian community is not disbanding but putting up new signs. We'll be setting up "embassies" for our non-Canadian friends as well. Link in bio.

are you being purposefully obtuse?

Pride, BLM, MAGA, Brexit, Christians, Atheists, Democrats, or Republicans. The list goes on.

Choosing to Blow up the site over "not allowing" the 405th branding to be edited or manipulated over Pride month is the politics. I am just as against making a 4th of July 405th banner as I am against a Pride one.

We as a community should not sponsor an issue that will divide across any number of personal beliefs. because no matter what you do, you end up discriminating against someone.

That as I understood it was the whole point. Pride may have been the hot-button issue now. but it would have been something else in the future. the 405th branding (community) remaining unmovable and impartial is more important than a transient or momentary event.

Y’all keep bringing up Politics. This has nothing to do with Pride. It could have been about us not being allowed to have spaghetti by royal decree of the owner.

The cause is basically irrelevant. When our members (LOTS of our members) reached out to leadership being hurt by the actions of ownership. Those concerns were brought forward and were essentially greeted with the mentality that change is impossible and the only voice that should be heard or that matters is the owner. Despite being told to represent our membership, ownership doesn’t care what they want, refuses to listen to appointed leaders, and membership’s wants matters less than tyrannical rule.

If you are cool with tyranny and being not heard, not being able to guide or have input in your community, that is entirely fine, this is the place for you. Canadian are resigning as there is no point in holding any positions of authority here as you get saddled with responsibility without the ability to fulfill that responsibility. You end up letting down your members, they end up distressed and don’t want to be part of this community.

We are simply removing ourselves and providing an alternative where that will not be the place as it does not have an individual owner, but a group chosen to represent and respect our membership

look, being gay is political, no matter what, and as a proud, gay man and former BCO i could not continue operating under such disrespect for my time and effort toward this community.
The whole issue does not stem from pride, it stems from a unidirectional decision from art the block pride 3 days before it started with no transparency over the decision. I would have had absolutely no issue with the 405th not present the pride flag (or ANY other affiliation) if it was done with respect toward staff and made the brand integrity consistent with all the other material that went against the guidelines but alas only the pride stuff was targeted and he refused further discussions.

our decision stem from the owners decision and behavior and disrespect, not for any political agenda

Alright everyone, I think this thread has been going for long enough. No amount of arguing is going to benefit either group. As I have said in the Canadian Regiment area, I have never and will never make people choose which Halo group or groups they choose to spend their time with. Those that wish to be a part of the new group can still be a member here if that is their desire. However, staying here means that you are choosing to be a member of the community here, not simply staying here to argue the point of why you want to leave. I have committed to keeping the post here with the link available to the new group and that will remain the case so long as my request for no further posting of the link or advertising for the new group occurs. However, I am not allowing this discussion to devolve in to a war here. If your only goal here is to argue, I ask that you please politely escort yourself out. Those that wish to learn more about the new group, please take that to the new group's forum. I'm sure they will be happy to answer any questions that you have.
