So I went skydiving on Tuesday (August 5). I went with my friend for his 21st b-day. One of the best things ever!!
If you like roller coaster, then you will love this!! Went to Skydive Chicago, in Ottowa, IL. Jumped at 13,000ft, 50 sec free-fall, 5-6minute "float".

I think I will go again soon!
Here is a video they made for me!
I look kinda goofy in the video, plus you will get a nice promo for them they make everyone say at the end...
Also wore a bright green "spartan armor" jump suit
Will post pics soon.
Enjoy!

I just used a dvd ripper software and made it into an avi file

the weather we had was great. I loved the clouds since you can tell how high you are better with the clouds there.

Wouldn't it be fun to build a modified ODST rig to fit over a skydiving harness..... ;)

OH MY GOD! you went and survived skydive chicago?!

I dont wanan freak you out but they've got one of the worst records for fatalities! and according to a teacher/ good friend whose a SMSgt. in the airforce (retired) the [former] owner of the place was killed using his own establishment.

dont get me wrong, its a great sport. I love doing it, but i've made a personal note never to go there.

EDIT: heres one more

Passmore's death was the sixth in a year at Skydive Chicago, a fatality rate eight times higher than the national average. He was the second instructor to die there this year and the second fatality since July 2001 in which drugs were found in the victim's system.

the place is a certified deathtrap.

Thanks for the warning but...your info is a little outdated Also most of the deaths occur during record breaking attempts and were due to other things beside equipment failure. Year they had 6 deaths was mainly because of record breaking attempts and were not due to equipment failure.

They one guy died b/c of drugs and it wasn't the equipments fault it was his own. (July 14 2002)
the other doesn't say. 2004

I do know that there are more places to skydive at but it just seems like these deaths are more of personal issues with maybe some of the "hippy" instructors rather than faulty equipment.

the owner did get killed after making some 14,000+ jump! I understand it only takes one jump to kill you (haha) but death kinda comes with skydiving. If you don't want to risk it then don't good, and that's ok. but drving in your car is more dangerous (the odds of injury)

I DO appreciate your concern though. I never really thought about looking up accident rates for places. I will keep this in mind in the future.
Thanks

Accident Statistics

It's hard to estimate injuries very accurately, because what one person might call an injury, another might brush off as a minor occurrence. Many accidents go unreported. Only 821 USPA members reported having injuries requiring medical attention in 2007. During the same year, USPA members reported making nearly 2.2 million jumps.

Fatalities Each Year

1998 - 44
1999 - 27
2000 - 32
2001 - 35
2002 - 33
2003 - 25
2004 - 21
2005 - 27
2006 - 21
2007 - 18

no prob, sorry if i kinda went overboard a bit, but yes most of the injuries and fatalities are owed to equipment failure. Dad's a police officer in evidence and he said most of these have been equipment failure and a few cases of inaction on the divers part

hey when i turn 21 they might have those space freefall things.....though i wonder what the price tag on that would be :rolleyes

Note: I am not trying to scare people about skydiving with this information! skydiving is safe and very enjoyable. If it wasn't I wouldn't have just done it, right?

if you go to uspa.com most deaths are not due to equipment problems. the uspa keeps track of all accidents. your dad being a police officer is great and all but i think your are just goingon his opinion and not looking at the nationally published statistics on skydiving accidents.

example (taken from the uspa website)
Age Gender Time In Sport # of Jumps Accident Type Fatal

37 Male Two months 25 Medical Problem X

35 Male Four years 109 Low cutaway-reserve deployment X
55 Male 27 years 2402 Medical Problem X
68 25 years 3,800-plus Medical Problem X

26 Male One year 119 No Pull X

44 Male Four years 1100 Low Turn X
49 Male 12 years 139 Incorrect Emergency Procedures X

33 Male Five years 500-plus Low Turn X
45 Male 12 years 500-plus Low Turn X
49 Male 28 years 1347 Canopy Collision, Low cutaway-reserve deployment X
39 Male 13 years 2250 Landing Problem X
51 Male Not reported 14 Canopy Collision X
27 Male Not reported 125 Canopy Collision

yeah i was never one to pay attention. ;) ive been skydiving with the Texas A&M Aggie skydive club at my college and I gotta say its nice. its less restrictive form what i've heard about other places having you do like 5 tandem jumps before you could try your hand at AFF or static. I got to do AFF my first time. which i liked alot.

Most places usually have a 2 dive minimum before you solo AFF. here in NC you have to dive twice within a 30 day window to go solo your third time. But isn't it just soooooooooooooooo much fun!!!!!

PS: thanks for the dvd rip tip. I will try and get mine off and show you the crap clowdy weather we had haha!

Wow that is an awesome video! Seems like you had a blast. :) The view as you are about to step out of the plane....woooomg. Hehe.

I am way too much of a chicken poop to ever do skydiving. XD

nice vid man, due to med issues i cant skydive -,- hopefully next year for my 22nd bday im goin to go to one of those skydive centers wear you go between those 2 big fans :D whats it like seeing the ground coming at you at 100+ mph? lol

that was awesome man. im hoping i can get sent to jump school for the marines still. but that'll be in like two years.

i made once skydiving and the feeling is 100x more adrenaline jumping from 12-13 k meters i said that i will not land in one piece, but i landed with the last part of teh backbone broken(the very small one)and still hurts.I was like 12 yrs. when i made it.

maybe this time i will jump with the armor(when i will finish it)

EDIT:most death cases are the traditional "parachute not opening"
