Spartan armor colors?

Ok I'm a pretty big noob to the Halo universe. I'm considering making spartan armor (I haven't decided which series yet).
From what I saw at Calgary's big comic expo it that there are several 405ths living here, or near here.
So what I want to do is make my costume a little more unique than red, blue and of course Master Chief green. What colors are cannon, or no go territory? Are some colors strict to armor types?
Google isn't helping much as I seen one person make a rainbow of colors

Try using Vanity...It will let you see what a suit will look like in in different colors.

Few things, there are no "cannon colors." We aren't the 501st so us Spartans and ODST's have free color pallet options without any worry. When Bungie allowed us to customize our Spartans, they gave us a lot of color choices and armor options for a reason. There are N0 colors that are only for a certain armor type. Sage is the default color for all Spartans (expect for Black team, who had black armor and Grey team, who's armor was grey.) The reason? Its a military color, just like most military gear comes is 0live Drab.

I have the Vanity program, if you have any ideas or armor combos you'd like to see, I can whip something up for you.
