Recently commissioned by a customer to make a Halo 5 Teishin helmet. Only our second time printing a helmet so extremely excited to jump into the challenge again! For this one we took a bunch of lessons that we learned from building the Recluse armor to make it much better for the customer! First things first, the Halo 5 source file.

As you can see it's nice and polygony. So taking the advice from some other forum members I hoped into Blender to smooth out the model. Night and day difference.

Next was scaling. So time for Armorsmith. It's what we used to scale the Recluse, and if you havent used it before I highly recommend you giving it a try.

Then came slicing. We first attempted to cut the helmet into 8 parts, but the sizing and printability of those parts just wasnt ideal. So we Cut it in halve then split from there.

Now off to the printer!

Gee this looks familiar ...... glad you’ve started cleaning them up a bit it makes a huge difference I think. So far so good!! Too late now, but if I was to print one of these again I would make the circles/cylinders on the side just an outside shell not the the full cylinder like the original model. Having it the way the original model is really narrows the helmet at the ears.

Another thing but too late now, is with my newest helmet I started cutting the helmet into pieces but cut it so I wouldn’t get four seams to come together in one spot. Its hard to put into words but makes lining things up much easier without registration pins and such. Maybe I can come up with a picture in a little while.

See how one “horizontal” seam (in the picture theyre horizontal but theyre really vertical seams on the helmet) doesn’t line up with another “horizontal” seam?? Oh oh and it’s Teishin not Tenshin.

Thats a great idea, makes it easier than modeling registration keys. Thanks!

Next piece off the presses, it's not as pretty as the others but nothing a little cleanup cant fix. Had some robot issues.

Very niceeeeee! That's gonna look amazing once it's done.

I need to get back into printing...last time I printed something was probably 3 months ago. I should probably calibrate my machine. How are you getting prints as nice as those??

Calibration cubes, temp towers, etc. This site was a lot of help:
Print Quality Troubleshooting Guide | Simplify3D Software
Just took the things I noticed and tackled them one at a time. Change one thing at a time too, so you can track what did what. Extrusion multiplier was what had the greatest effect other than temp imo.

And just like that she is complete. Gotta love the painter's tape mockups. Time to package up and send to the customer!
