hey guys im currently in progress of making a CLU suit from the movie Tron: Legacy which is soon to be released. and i thaught that you guys might like to know how im going to do it.

today i have ordered a black morphsuit (located here) . i will be using this for the current base of the suit untill i can find better reference pictures to make it almost screen acurate.

i will be buying about 12 meters of EL-Wire in the colour yellow, and stitching it onto the morphsuit using fishing line (cause its see through and wont be visible). ill probably be buying all of my EL-wire and connectors/power packs from this site. (located in australia). i have been emailing them about the cost and what product i should use. (wire or cuttable sheet) and have been told by them that they have had alot of people asking about their product to make their own tron suit which i find awesome.

hopefully i will receive my morphsuit in the next 2-3 days so i can start to map out where i will be running the EL-Wire. then i can do proper measurements as to how much of the wire i will need.

here is a reference pic just to make it look like i have progress other then just websites :p

Hey, looks like your with me....If I were you, I would recommend this, use 3mm foam or the "mentioned as" rubber parts so you could actually sit, as for the lights.....Reflective tape.

i will be making it more realistic in the future but as a start i will just have the lighting going. i will be able to add more detail as i go along. i will probably use some kind of vinyl. with padding underneath to get that real good look. and EL-wire will look much better then reflective tape ( i could put some under the wire but)

*edit* just bought 13 meters of ultrabright orangy/yellow EL-wire. 2 6-8 meter portable drivers and a bunch of connectors and splitters. total of $245 AUD. so to date i have spent $335 on this suit. dont think i will need to spend any more though after that

just got my Morphsuit in the mail today =D. now i need to start mapping out where i will need to sew on the EL-wire here is a pic for your viewing pleasure

Looking forward to seeing how this turns out! I'm a big Tron fan! Because of how wide the lit sections of the costume are, it would probably look better to use EL sheets or EL tape.

Heck yeah dude I love tron, somebody should make a Sark suit

Tron has one of my favorite sci-fi theoreticals. With the programs believing in users but never actually seeing them. The original movies is one of my favorite I hope that the new one doesn't screw it up, but it looks pretty sick.

Good luck on your project, I'll be keeping an eye on it.

I was just thinking today to myself how cool a new CLU suit would be. And here it is! I will Definitely be checking in on this often to see your progress. Good luck with this suit! Tron FTW!

the place that i am buying my wire from did suggest using the cuttable sheets. but they fact is that you cant run them off of the portable drivers for long before they get dim. and its much MUCH more expensive. i got 13m of wire and some other stuff came to $245 aud.

anyway on with my update. payment for my wire has gone through so i should be getting it in a few days. then let the awesomeness begin =D

This should be awesome in the end. I'm a big fan of the original movie and I am also hoping the new one will be really good.

I just got back from seeing the movie and was totally blown away. I was looking very closely at all the costumes and I noticed that they all have rubber molded parts that sit over the body suit. This brings me to my question. Are you planning on doing anything for those parts of the suit or are you gonna wire the el straight on the body suit? This build is really cool and I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out. Good Luck.
Here is a reference pic I found that shows the rubber molded armor. Kinda like batmans.

bloody wicked.

if you do rubber molds let me know.w ould love to build my own. and really it seems like a fairly decent build.

if you need thicker lines. try doubling the el wire up?

That looks like "the Foot" from TMNT 1 and 2. "Ninja Vanish". :D

I really like this idea. If you do get to a molded part of this suit you could always the hot glue and LED method. And now this has got me thinking.

i will eventually add the moulded parts, but i dont have any plans for that at the moment. im still waiting on my wire to come that will be here very soon. and i need to go see the movie at some point too =D

Watch out, EL wire has a copper core that can break if you bend it too much. Points that this is going to happen at are the natural pivot points on the body (knees, elbows,) try to work around this without sacrificing from the "replica" look.

Looks like it will be pretty cool, I just saw the movie Sunday night and it was awesome!

If I ever finish my armor a helmeted red suit is a potential build so I'll keep watching this thread. Hopefully the movie will inspire you further, it was pretty cool.

i will try to work around this. i got the wire that is recommended for costuming and such. it is very flexible and 3.2 mm thick.

and i got my wire today =D yippee.

this is the 2 longest parts that go around almost the entire body.

you cant really tell how long they are from the photo. but they are about 3.5 meters each
