EDIT 6/30/2010: Pep finished. The beam rifle is heavy and unstable enough that the three barrels (yes, they are seperate) are slightly warped. Need some suggestions on how to fix this problem and maybe suggestions on how to complete my rifle (foam, resin, play dough)

Finished pic (progress pics below)

Finished the "energy chamber" (I'm just making up piece names) and the trigger assembly. Burned my finger with the hot glue gun (I was being stupid) and now have a little blister to carry around with me. Gluing this piece is becoming interesting to say the least.

All the new pics in this box up here (for easy viewing).

For those of you who read this far, I appreciate your encouraging remarks and constructive criticisms. Any suggestions or ideas, please let me know.

First, the Beam Rifle in all its unfolded glory

A few more Pieces

The Piece that made me invent new angry swear words. At least two of the pep pieces on the handle/trigger were so small that they actually fell apart because I handled them. Luckily, its not that obvious ;)

P.S. Not sure if this is right side up

Master Chief is hanging in the Energy Chamber because he is a ham for the camera :)

Nice folding! I'll be watching this with interest, had been sorely tempted to make one myself before but didn't feel up to it. Best of luck with your build cause it's started great :D

Okay, couple of pics added to the top. If anybody has advice on pepping round weapons "from the inside" please let me know.

Wow that is so cool looking! Here's what I do for inside work: Look at the model in the pep program, and find the part that looks the easiest, and put it together so that the last pieces put together are the easiest pieces. Also, it helps to just look for each hard spot, and get them out of the way while it is still an open model, that way difficult spots are much easier.

Very nice work on the weapon so far. I took one look at it before sighing and exporting an OBJ to fiddle with and re-design.

Not to say the weapon file itself is BAD (by all means it's an absolutely amazing piece of modelling work), I mean, but there's a lot of detailing there that could probably be done with bondo and a lot of inventive supports. Plus, the number of vertices on that file made me do a double-take. More than likely you could halve the number and still keep an appreciable amount of detail to work with.

TL;DR I'm lazy and I don't want to spend the rest of my life screaming myself blue in the face at a pep file. I'd prefer to reserve that for the time I spend with my husband :p

HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!! I got a Google Sketchup file for a beam rifle, converted it into a google earth file so that I could unfold it in Pepakura, but EPIC FAILED. I'm glad to know there's someone who didn't epic fail. I can't wait to see that finished!
