Banshee Build

So as the title description read yes I plan on making a Banshee at least 1/2 scale or bigger, how I am going to go about doing this I already have my low poly banshee model almost ready to go and it's in a open position of course for a pep file then I plan on coating the model in at least 5 coats of fiberglass resin and I have'nt calculated how many coats of bondo I'm going to be using or bondo glass I have'nt decided yet I just have 2 five gallon buckets of resin to do this with that I got for free, heh I get all my resin and bondo for free. As far as detailing goes thats where I need some help with what the interior of the Banshee looks like and what color scheme I need to use I'm thinking a dark blue/purple chameleon paint job but I'm not sure as to what the closest to the actual color might be. And of course people this thing ain't gonna fly unless you got some pixy dust to get it off the ground with but still it will be cool looking at conventions and after it's had enough touring I'll give it to the local game center or throw it up on eBay because I wo'nt be able to do much with it besides make it look like it crashed in my front yard. SO if the members of the 405th wou;d help me with interior images and color I can get this party started.

When my friend completes the 3d model for me to unfold it you'll get to see pics thats a guarentee and I'll keep it up to date with pics of the progress of the build.

I'd love to see this happen but it's really ambitious and I'd be prepared to spend a ton of money on cardstock/resin/fiberglass for a project like this. Definitely keep us posted though. And I mean...if you're going to go even close to full size then I'd just go full scale.

(just because full scale would be really sick)

you better have a ton of cardstock.

I don't think pep is the right way to do this.

I'm sorry, but I have to agree with this. Don't get me wrong, it would be an awesome build, but out of cardstock? It doesn't seem plausible. You should try a wooden frame and maybe have a few pieces be pepped.

In fact Im so interested in this build that if I dont decide to do it I might buy it from you... (MIGHT)

I think you would be better off building a wooden framework and skin it with styrene or possibly fiberglass. Given the size I think you'd have quite a few problems with warping of the cardstock parts, even with supports. Another option would be to use a 3D model as a guide to carve out a basic body shape in polystyrene, then hardcoat it and detail (a lot like how the Weta Warthog was built)

Thanks for the replys on this and it has given me a few ideas as I have'nt thought of using a wooden framework and using HIPS ( High Impact Polystyrene) or fiberglass to coat it, now that this idea has been pointed out it gives me the idea of using the wooden frame and using something like chickenwire to coat it in PU ( Polyurathane Foam ) and using something like Paverpol or Artist Gesso to coat it in before painting or fiberglassing.

I think pep would be difficult but if this were my project I may prefer due to my inexperience with other mediums. You would have the problem of warping and whatnot, but adjusting the pep file right until you have it in sections would make the build much easier. Just do a regular build and piece them together at the end. IMO, it would be optimal. But again... inexperienced :(

underline: the problem with this would be they may warp slightly and then not fit together well, although this might not be a problem and could be solvable with some bondo etc, a wooden framework with (as Nintendude said) chicken wire and PU is probably the way to go.

Thanks for the picture it gives it the idea of how to do the work on the inside top part not I just have to get the lower part to get it right. And heres the pepakura picture of the current file it's still undergoing editing to get it right but still not all the way sure of how I will be building it all

you could probably sculpt the body out of florist foam and then add details in some other material on top. Pep seems like a really challenging way to do this build.

Thanks Chevysrule and everyone else the pep design in the picture is not the final pep it's only there for show it is being worked on right now by a friend who is making it into more pieces and Imnotahero florist foam definatly won't work for just about any project because of it being so soft, yes you could scuplt it but it would'nt be able to have any pressure put on it.
