everyone is always talking about resin being toxic but is bondo just as toxic? when i start bondo'ing do i need a respirator or anything?

When working with all these chemicals and products, it's safer to just wear a respirator anyways, whether you're sanding or resining, a mask/respirator for the right job should be used to be safe. Painting too, but paint is alot less toxic than resin/dust. So when painting, depending on what type of paint, you may/may not need to use a mask/respirator.

hmm, i know that you're supposed to wear a respirator for bondo. but should we worry about coveralls and what not also? there's not going to be little shards of glass flying around with bondo is there, like fiberglass cloth/mat?

Sensitivity to fiberglass particles varies from person to person. Some people could rub it all over themselves and not get a rash, others can't even get close to it without breaking out in hives.

You need to find out how it affects you and take whatever precautionary measures are needed.

Coveralls wouldn't be a bad idea if you have a severe sensitivity to fiberglass

you misread the question. i KNOW you're supposed to wear a respirator for everything. HOWEVER, should we be wearing protective garments for bondoing or plastering? isn't bondo just like some type of putty? does bondo run the risk of having shards of glass flying around, like fiberglass?

styrene can be a carcinogen in certain forms however, when bondo has set up and you're sanding it, the dust is only classified as a "nuisance dust" so not harmful, that being said you should still wear a dust mask while sanding anything, be it bondo, paint or otherwise . Doctors arn't certain yet but, they think inhaling talc dust can give you sarcoidosis (which I already have :p ) if you have the genetic marker for it.

Not unless you put glass matt in it.

It is a good idea to use sealed eye protection (goggles) aswell, the fumes from a freshly mixed batch can cause a bad eye irritation. I've been working with bondo products for about 15yrs and the fumes still hit me pretty hard sometimes.
