Hello,

I am a long time reader and I have been making armour for a while, but I just made this account.

It has come to my attention that no one has ever really made a (almost) full scale Brute costume. I want to change that.

Next week I will be starting my Brute costume. I know how to make most things, the armour, weapons, (heck, I've even made myself a Spike Grenade). But one part keeps troubling me. How will I make the skin? Brutes are very strong and have lots of muscle. How will I able to make realistic Brute skin? And for that matter how will I make the face?

Btw, the costume is going to be almost complete scale (around 6'4 in height), so the skin and muscles have to be big. It also needs to be flexible enough to move around and run. Also take note, this is a Halo 3/ODST era Brute, not the demonic troll Reach era Brute. This is what I am talking about by "skin" (look at arm/chest).

I know about the scale. Hence the reason I put almost scale.

I really should have mentioned that I have no experience with plastics, moulding, etc. :p

Head down to anywhere you can get one of these. http://www.buysuperherocostumes.com/mr_incredible.html .
Then, go out and get yourself some foam of some kind or anything you can use to build up the muscle to suit your liking. Then, get some liquid latex and follow these instructions. http://www.thehunterslair.com/index.php?showtopic=4477 . Hope it helps, man! Liquid latex will give you a real skin feel, it's what they use in Predator and AvP and stuff like that for the skin of their monsers.

Oh dude rad! Thanks man.

For the hunters head you will have to sculpt it in clay, take a mold, and pull from latex.

Oasis's link will help you with the rest.

Not a problem dude. Just adding to devious's comment, I'd use a liquid foam filler in the mask as well, so your head fits into it after you pull it from latex. Otherwise you can fill the head completely, and have your head somewhere in the neck area, that way you could add a couple extra inches onto that beast.

Thanks man, you both have been a big help.

I'll make a new thread for the build!

Some brutes have that fur all over them. You could make the musculature out of foam and then just cover it, but no matter what you do, this costume would be very, very hot. I highly suggest investing in some internal fan systems, or just get one of these:

It's a shirt that runs cold water through it. If you run out of cold water, just empty it out and refill it with more. Or.. something like that. On of my friends gets hot very easily, so he's going to buy one of these for underneath his spartan suit.

As for muscles, I think I remember one of those "special features" in the movie Silent Hill talking about how they made the muscles for the Pyramid Head. It was really cool and realistic.

Its a Halo 3 era Brute with Reach armour, so no hair. And that cooling systems a great idea thanks!
