Title change since I'm also including the tripod with the vehicle mount portion.

Started the foam shields. They'll need multiple layers of glue to make them rigid enough, then sanding and more glue for the appropriate shapes.

Snagged a tripod at Goodwill for $7. It'll need some bulking to look the part, but it works perfectly for the scale.

Now that's a big gun!!! Excellent work so far, just do be careful around it when it's on the tripod. It makes me nervous.
