Thank you very much BaronVonReicher, I hope my experiments may help you with your own. On a related note I have had some slight progress with the UA attachment, some details along the underside.

Not perfect but I can fix it up with little problem. Overall Im happy with how it turned out. I used 1/16th inch basswood with a paper template I made looking at images of the visor. Tried to make it as accurate as possible. Got a little tricky cutting out those thin pieces.

I really dig the visor add-on for the commando helmet. Your work is looking great, hope to see more updates coming on this build. Thank you for sharing.

This is looking great! Excellent work, this is the first UA I've seen fixed onto the helmet.
I suppose I really should release a file with the attachment joined to the base helmet.

Anyway keep up the good work!

Dred, this build is quite impressive. You've got the pepping down, and with every post it keeps looking better and better. Hang in there. It'll be all worth it in the end. :D

Fantastic work so far, Dred! I only hope my EVA ends up looking half as good as your helmet is shaping up to be. Keep up the good work!

Wow, thanks for all the encouraging comments everyone. You guys really help me to barrel down and continue working on this helmet. I'm very glad you guys like my work, and I hope to have more frequent updates from now on. Thank you all.

Oh ok i got ya' i know what you mean about Blackula's visor technique not always being viable, it didn't pan out well on one of my helmets either. Just tryin' to spread the good stuff so people dont screw it on or something like that. Anyways that brim detail is something else, i really wish I did that to my helmet, looks kinda lame without it :/

Hey thanks Tenebrus, it was fairly simple after I made a paper template. I've looked into your thread a few times and I love your Hazop helmet, the detailing looks great I only hope I can keep my lines that straight. Did you just use a rotary tool for those thin shallow cuts?

Been away for a long time again, been busy working and thinking up new features to add and complicate my build as always. Enough of the potatoes, heres the meat sorry it isnt much.

tried using some balsa and epoxy to bump out the upper cheek, make it as symmetrical as possible and to have a nice flat base to work off of. It was trickier than expected but i think it turned out well enough

Apologies for the poor picture, my camera is dead from EAA yesterday.

My 5 pounds of magic sculpt arrived in the mail recently, been wanting to try it out for a while now the chin on my helmet has been driving me insane. First impressions of the epoxy clay are good, i really like the amount of work time you have. I like how it looks so far but im anxious to find out how well it sands.

Oh I also cut out the depressions over the ears and the ones perpendicular where ill be putting lights to have a perfectly flat back and ensure 90 degree angles and symmetry. Plan on putting balsa in them later.

Thank you Pig, appreciate the comment

After the epoxy clay cured I got to sanding it and was surprised at how well it could be sanded. Much easier than bondo, I know ive seen some other people around the site use Magic Sculpt but if anyone else is curious about it I highly recommend it. I could only find it on Amazon unfortunately. Couldn't find it anywhere local which led me to buy 5 pounds of the stuff.

Im embarassed at how little of work Ive accomplished since my last postings. Im trying to charge back into the build and Im hoping now that the forums are back up and I can watch and see everyone elses builds progress it will motivate me more.

Well here are some of my latest pics:

This is one I took a while ago, my guilty pleasure is spraying it after large amounts of work are done to see whats left and to kind of pump me up a bit

I'm having troubles getting square edges on the smaller corners, also does anyone know of a thinner liquid I can pour that will harden enough to withstand molding and cure level and smooth?

Again any and all comments are very much appreciated, I am still a Noob

I think it looks great so far, don't be so hard on yourself, you have already passed being a noob by accomplishing all this! Keep us posted, can't wait to see it as it progresses!
