Cosmo's First Build - MkVb

Filler primer really does work wonders. I give my raw prints a round at 180 and 220 with the palm sander, then filler primer, hand sand, filler primer hand sand, and repeat. It can come out looking SMOOTH pretty quick.

Having done extra passes on the raw print before priming before, it’s really not worth the extra effort after a point. Primer will always sand easier than plastic. For the places you can’t get the sander in just hand sand the raw print as best you can with sand paper, maybe wrap some around a popsicle stick for the really hard to reach parts.

Looking good so far, can’t wait to see the results!

For anything that has seams from gluing multiple parts together I’d recommend going over the seams with bondo body filler first.

It’ll save you a lot of headache in the future.
Great point! Thankfully since I had such a big printer the only thing that I couldn't print in one piece was the front of the chest, the tops of the shoulder straps will be epoxied together. I'll definitely be hitting them with bondo, thanks for the recommendation!

Perfect, thankfully that sounds very similar to what I'm doing-- working through with 180 now. Here's hoping I can get that smooth I'm looking for!

End of summer(?) update!

I’m still working, albeit slowly because of work and fam obligations. One more good day of work and I should have all the armor pieces ready for a first coat of paint. They’ve all been primed and more than half have been sanded and bondo-ed.

I also have been working on a little vacuum form for the visor! The buck is ready but I need a little more hardware for the bracket holding the PETG sheets. We’ll see when the next day I have time to run for parts is, perhaps next week.

I did opt to reprint one of the forearms, since the quality just wasn’t as good as I wanted (it printed during a clog I hadn’t noticed until after!) Now however I’m super happy with all the parts I currently have. It’s starting to take shape and I’m excited!
