I REALLY want to see how you're pulling this one off. I've run into this problem and I'm sure you either already have or will soon. But my combat boots don't fit through the shin piece... If you can think of something creative please let me know.

Not trying to hijack the thread or anything, but figured id throw ou tan idea for you sinse i want to wear my combat boots with my armor too. I have seen it somewhere but i cant remember where for the life of me, but maybe you can cut the back of the shin piece and attach a hinge to it so it will be able to open up toward the bottom to fit your boot. Just an idea.

@sgtski

Everything is comming along nicely!

I was actually thinking of doing what i do with my BARC. Pull the shins up, put boots on, push shins down. Not sure i will have the flexibility with the thighs and shins on. Once i have them fiberglassed, i will have a better idea and i might cut a section out and use rare earth magnets to hold them together. The chest and back are finished and will get some resin this weekend along with several other pieces. I am using 2 coats of epoximate on the outside and 1 layer of fiberglass on the inside. So many pieces to this.

Pretty clean Work dude... does the neck piece fit you? because when I made that, it did't fit my head.... keep it up Bro ;)

Im not really sure if i mentioned it in this thread or not but i decided to give Hugh Holders chest core a try. I built it and it fits the chest armor perfectly, both by Hugh. I have the neck and arms still filled in so i havent done a full test bu i am confident it is a good size for my with the default scale. I took some clay and sculpted a buckle and i think the size is good, i made a box and poured some rebound on it and have a mold for more with smoothcast. I am thinking of using chicago screws to hold the chest piece to the core and 1 inch webbing to use as straps for the buckles. I will show pics of what i mean after the 2 pieces are fiberglassed. I will also post pics of the first cast of the buckle tomorrow.
Any opinions?

Opinions? Yes, dude this is amazing! and I'm quite jealous if I might add. you have no idea how much I want to see this one done! good luck man.

Managed to get some fiberglassing done. Next will be a second coat on the chest core and then fiberglass it and start assembling the chest and ab parts. I also pulled 2 buckles from my mold.

Every part has been pepped and at least one coat of epoximate. I am fiberglassing parts slowly so not much to see for a little while. I will be working on a way to attach the chest piece to the chest core since they are fiberglassed. When i sort that out i will post my solution and pics. Thanks for watching DeRanKer.

I'm not really taking suggestions for the colors. I am doing a desert build. Im just not sure how I will be laying the colors. I want to make sure this looks good with my ACU's and looks like it belongs in a desert. I am inspired by this Arctic/snow build -Arctic-ODST-Timberwolves

idk, i would say just start with a base coat and just build on it, its just paint, and if you dont like it, you can go back and try again.
my suggestion would be start with the most amount of paint to least amount.

Thank you for the reply. I meant that i just haven't figured out how it will end up when i am done. I have a rough idea and i have my colors. I will be doing like you said and spray a base coat of Tan and then try out a few things to add the right look I want to it. Im leaving the final design up to how the paint looks once i get the base coat down. If I don't like it, sand it and repaint.

Update on progress.
Chest and back of Hugh Holders Torso are fiberglassed. I have to smotth the inside down and trim the excess of the edges and figure out a way to keep them together. I was thinking of magnets but i might go with Velcro. I hope to have them connected and attach the chest piece and test fit with helmet and some colors painted by sunday night. Stay posted. Should start taking shape soon.

*SIGH* So much so fast.... jealousy is settling in fast xD
Don't worry. Some days are better than others.
I assembled the chest to the core and added velcro to the chest and back core. All 3 are painted. Pics soon. I will need help to connect the chest to the back when i wear it right now. Ill get some clips installed at home. Im not happy about the foliage color i have, going to see if some digi and primer misting can dull it down and make it look better. Stay tuned.

Great work all around. It's always great to see what a motivated man with time on his hands can do on a deployment. My year in the desert resulted in a complete MC build. I didn't really struggle with color. I found it was texture that made the build look right. Would have tried hammertone under my color coat, but could not get it in country X. What I did have was very fine sand (a helluva lot of it!) that collected on the downwind side of our sidewalks. I sprayed a heavy coat of base black (It was cheap and plentiful), then I just held up a fistful of the sand in front of my mouth and blew a cloud of this fine sand at the wet paint. After it dried, I put my color coats on top. The texture really made the armor plates look much more like cast metal than the crafted cardboard they really were. If I hadn't textured, it wouldn't have mattered what color I chose. Everything would have just looked home made. Good luck and thank you for your service.
