Discord Refresh

Nothing wrong with providing resources for those who need them. I think you may have misinterpreted that message.
Maybe I did. In the context of channel reorganization it sounded (to me) like channels for being a resource for therapy/mental health. IE: being a channel to chat about one's mental health while in distress.
If its not that, can you clarify what "making resources available" would mean in the context of the chat server?

What Jonah has in mind is something along the lines of a pinned post in a suitable channel that lists a set of crisis, therapy, and mental health resources sorted by Country/Region, not a new channel for Mental Health discussion.

This is exactly along the lines of what I was recommending. It would not be a channel open for talking in. It would be resources that align directly with your local governance for certain topics and help groups to go to in crisis. We would work with our members in these key countries to curate a ideal list for those resources

I'm trying to picture that in the server as a pinned post (or series of) (or pinned by country channel) and navigating it. Even if it were broken down by the regional channels... A pinned post at the top of the `Australia` or `USA` channel would still be huge.
  1. USA
    1. Alcoholism
      1. Texas
        1. Broward County
        2. ...
      2. Utah
        1. ...
    2. Drug addition
      1. state
    3. Teen run away
      1. state
    4. ...
  2. Next country
Or are you talking about a smaller subset when you say "crisis, therapy, and mental health"? 'Crisis' is a bit vague.
  1. Crisis - Spousal abuse
  2. Crisis - Homeless
  3. Crisis - Parental death
  4. Crisis - No money for food or rent
  5. Therapy - Childhood trauma
  6. Therapy - Sexual abuse
  7. Therapy - Drug addiction
  8. MH - Work pressures
  9. MH - Suicidal
  10. MH - Violent intrusive thoughts
  11. MH - Hearing voices

The 405th is for making halo cosplay, and that's it.
This is a costume server. Let's just stick to that, eh?
The thing is though, the 405th has become more than just a Halo costuming repository. It's a Halo costuming community. So many friendships have been formed here. Many people have travelled countries, continents, across the world, to meet fellow members. We've developed our skills together and looked out for each other. For some, the 405th may be the closest peers they have in their lives.

Do we need to be careful on what topics get brought up when discussing the difficult aspects of life? Yes, we do. As stated, not all of us are equipped with the skills to help out where a professional is needed. But when someone we care for just needs a shoulder to lean on, or some basic advice, we can be there.

There's no obligation to participate in the community, of course. If you just wanna make some sweet costumes, using the forums as a guide and place to gather the resources you need, awesome! That is the primary function of the 405th. But naturally, like many online environments, it's evolved into something more. More connected. More welcoming and accepting.

If the 405th was just a place to get files and talk about making armour, I wouldn't have been as active as I am. I wouldn't be in a staff position. I wouldn't have the skills that I do. And I wouldn't have travelled around the world to have the time of my life meeting the friends I've made here.

I am thankful for this refresh of the Discord server. As someone who previously had to hide 80% of active channels as they were either unused or not relevant to me, I can imagine that this will make the onboarding for new users much more comfortable. While I am sad to see certain few channels leave, as someone who also runs a community server the importance of having less channels cannot be understated.
I do have some concerns about the flexibility of generating threads, but I have full confidence that it will be smoothed out in due time. Thank you!

I do have some concerns about the flexibility of generating threads, {...}
I could be wrong but... Some of the refresh is taking place now and I don't see any issue with creating threads. I've been very vocal for months in everyday chats about making threads and it just hasn't been a concept people are catching on to. Most of the time its someone asking a question and if I'm the first to answer then I make a thread out of it if it seems like something that will be a repeated question searched for by others in the future or benefit many or ongoing issue that should be consolidated. So I don't see a problem with making them so much as educating users to do it.

In general, I think the topic is going to have to opened to the wider community outside this current thread as you are finding out/knew, there is a WHOLE lot of nuance in designing something like this. It will be tailored by the community, for the community. We will have to see what sticks and works for this type of addition as I wanna make sure it fulfills a need the community may need.

Ok but here's the real question:
What channel do birthday wishes go in?!
Possibly #life? Right now they all seem to be going in #general. Which is better?

Yeah - Since #General doesn't get used per the channel intended description (General 405th chat but instead is more like a lobby for general _overall_ chat.

But... the description of #life sounds more like birthdays to me.
> Celebrations, milestones

General or Life are honestly fine. I like general cause then everyone can say it but. Idk personal preference
