Meatwad and Kyre Thanks guys! I just found my shop has some sanding sponges 300/400 grit, 500/600 grit and 800/1000 grit so it looks like I've got what I need. I'm thinking I'll just keep dipping them into a bucket of water like Kyre suggested sometime this weekend.
The BoomCo Magnum you might of noticed in the background is coming out pretty great!
A bucket works really well with sponges, because you have the mass of it to shake the residue out into the water. A spray bottle is pobably the better bet if you were using actual sandpaper though, yeah. You've hear the K.I.S.S. rule for most things, right Duke? Well, it's K.I.W.i here- "Keep It Wet, Imbecile!" haha
Lol. Yeah, my boss pretty much lives by the KISS rule. As you may have noticed though, I can get carried away a bit.. But I will be sure to keep it wet! haha
If I had known how easy it is to wet sand I would have dumped even more paint on this thing!!! Wet sanding went great, if you couldn't tell. I broke through past my primer, in some spots so I just have to hit it again with another coat and another sand and I think we'll have it.
Haha! you just gave me a great idea Kyre. My brother who is dressing up as the Metrocop will definitely have to make a stun baton. And if my other brother, as Gordan Freeman, wields a crowbar they could make some pretty sweet melee action photos!
With the lights at the bottom of the lens, it made it hard to secure the lens in flush, created a gap at the bottom and along the sided. So, I decided to use Epoxy Putty and I am really happy with the results! It was decently easy to work with, dried quickly, cleaned up nicely with glass clear (with amonia) and provided a nice smooth finish that I am hoping to sand a little and paint.
After a good little bit I was able to get them both in.
All I have left to do is install the on/off switch somewhere on the helmet and I'm hoping to figure out a place to put a fan because it is warm inside there and the eyes are hard enough to see out of without them fogging up.
Sure man. It'll have to be next week though, I'm filling in for one of my drivers this week and I'll be giving it to my younger brothers at their graduation party the weekend after.
Well, this had been done now for a little bit so I might as well get the finished photos up. My little brothers were really impressed and happy with the result. I gave it to them at their graduation party.
Not sure if I mentioned, the attachments have googley eyes on them to give the appearance of bolt heads or rivots. Thanks for Saber 's build for that idea.
I ended up drilling holes underwear the nose rim thing and underneath the upper breather attachment for airflow. For the fan I had to come up with a removable system since the fan became in the way of the wingnuts for removing the front attachments. My fix was simple, I epoxied down a small piece of wood and screwed the fan into it. Pads are used military pads and velcro'd on.
The vision out through the light up eyes was good. As long as it wasn't too bright you can still see the blue from the outside and as long as it's not too dark you can see out ok. Thanks for the help Kyre and kaween for brainstorming this with me.
Clean job, if i'd was your little brother, I'd be very happy with that too. Congrats on a job well done.
Would love to see this on a full suit with props.
Dude, i speak for all HL2 Fans when i say that this is not only the best metrocop helmet on the 405th, it might be the only good, detailed build log. Neat work!

That is very generous of you. Thank you. I hope you mean only good HL2 build log because there are many great build logs on this site. They are what inspire me to document my work.
Wow, this is a cool build! I plan on building a civil protection suit in the near future, so thanks for sharing
When I was doing research, I found it interesting that half of all the Half Life cosplay photos I saw, had someone Halo or 405th accompanying them xD
