OK, I'm completely stuck as to what to use for the lights in my MK VI...please help me :D

I would like this effect for the exterior:

And something like this for the inside:

Thanks for any help

For the exterior, you can use something like this...

These are adhesive bumpers for cabinets. They're primarily used to muffle the closing of cabinet doors; you place them on the inside of the cabinet door so it does not bang when it closes. I used something similar on my Mk VI helmet and it works out pretty well.

As far as the lights, I find that 5mm Bright White LEDs work pretty well. You can check my thread as well there to see how I mounted them. You really only need the crazy housing if you feel that you will need to change them out occasionally, but if you build the circuit correctly, LEDs last practically forever. Now is the best time to get cheap LEDs, being Christmas time. Go out and look for LED Christmas tree lights (try to make sure that the LEDs are actually white or whatever color you wish, I bought a strand only to find out they were all blue, good thing for my Mk VI build, but I don't think I'll be able to use them in a lot of applications). You can pick up a strand of lights for about $10, which generally include 50 LEDs or so depending on the size of the strand. If you tried to buy 50 LEDs from a retailer who sells packages of LEDs, you're going to spend upwards of a dollar an LED, so $50+.

Just a few things to think about and consider.

The 10mm LEDs are a perfect fit. I like the diffused ones.

Anything diffused won't be flashlight bright. Really you don't want that anyway, blinds anyone you look at. Just needs to be bright enough to show up well in photographs.

Video of 10mm diffused blue LEDs installed in helmet. Jump to the 45 second mark.

Funnily enough I have a few LEDs in a box somewhere, I just wasn't sure that was the way to go. I reckon the combo of the 10mm LEDs fitted flush with the cupboard bumpers will give me what I want.

Thanks guys.

I agree with thatdecade. I used some 10mm high intensity LEDs on a RC aircraft as landing lights. Along with the rest of the set up when it was airborne you could almost mistake it for the real thing. The LEDs were so bright they would blind you if you looked into them.

Radioshack may have some LED holders that might suit your build.
