Well as some of you may know, Halo Legends: The Duel is out on Waypoint TODAY ONLY (until later release) and i was wondering what you all thought of it?

The female kind of pissed me off a bit, and the length was too short in my opinion, but much better than The Babysitter, which was just too cliche.

I loved how big the hunters were in it! and i also liked that new "Energy sword" the main bad guy was carrying, does anyone know the actual size of it based on the film?

Well in my opinion, I didn't quite like it as much as I liked the babysitter. I mean, not to be like overly specific, but since when were Hunters almost as tall as a Gundam? I think that was exaggerated just a little bit too much. Although, I did like how it showed how the Elites joined the Covenant and their home world. And also the ancient looking energy sword. Overall, I thought it was an ok story that brought some perspective to the Arbiter and the Elite's background.

The hunters are correct my friends. Its been stated, based on the gravity of a planet the size of Lekgolo are changed the scary thing about it there are even bigger ones then these. All forerunner built worlds have the same gravity as earth so that size of hunters is all we see. But heavier worlds I believe get larger hunters. Remember lekgolo are just colonies of worms. The scarabs are lekgolo also.

the art was terrible, I felt like I was watching an ultra low quality youtube video through a stained glass window. It just annoyed me how much I couldn't make out any detail. I understand it's anime and made by people in Asia, but I'm tired of seeing covenant buildings looking like some old chinese temples and people in Samurai outfits.

Besides that it was alright, the fight was pretty cool. I think this is the first time we ever see a female elite drawn out.

the "new" sword is about 7' long I'd say.

I thought that the "love" scenes in it were a dynamic part of the story I thought.

I thought the "samurai" warrior elite was a bit of a different approach of what the guard armor would look like.

The fight sequences were the most spectacular parts of the episode.

The wife of the arbiter was a interesting personna in the episode and her part in the story

The female reminded me way too much of the movie Avatar

i think they would have looked better like this

the first time she came on I seriously thought it was someone from Avatar.

Same, and has anyone noticed that the 'helicopters' (I don't know what they're called) look like Hornets with older technology?

Anyway, the episode was alright, but I like the babysitter more

I absolutely hated how the female Sangheili was made. She doesn't look a bit like an elite at all.

For one, she doesn't have the trade mark "squidface" appearance. She also isn't supposed to have hair since the elites look alot more reptilian the mammal.

The fighting scenes were badass. The new hunters give a new meaning to the word,"badass!".

I liked the samurai elite and his badass sword.

So all in all. I hated the female and like the rest.

things i liked:

gave a backstory to the arbiter, such as, why the title is a mark of shame

the arbiter duel wields energy swords

the gundam sized hunter

the samurai elite's sword

it showed a female elite

the grunt that yelled out "He's a demon!"

the samurai elite's armor

the fight scenes

things i didnt like:

the female elite looked like the girl from ANTZ.

THE GIRL HAD HAIR!

looked super low quality at times

"hunter gundam" went down like a pussy, they could have done more with him

way too much japanese influence

the mandables dont move right.

they portray the female as weak (in my opinion at least)

things i can ignore:

their mandable can come together to form a normal looking jaw

re-freaking-god damned-diculous. This was the worst thing of HALO ive ever seen.

1) The oil painting look was different, but all in all unsatisfying.

2) It feels like the story was written by some japanese dude who has never played HALO or read the history/fiction

3) The AVATAR-esque female Sangheili was stupid, even though i can understand SOME deviation from the form of a male sangheili, i would expect large similarities as well.

4) These are supposed to be aliens with completely different cultures from us, why the heck would they have samurai armor?(i understand the Japanese influence, but come on)

5) I HOPE that whoever directed this, has nothing to do with the rest of the films. I think an american company, doing anime style animation, could have done a better job.(hell someone with a grounding in the HALO mythos/universe would be better)

6) just thought of it. The grunt didnt have a mask. If they are on Sanghelios, then they are breathing a nitrogen/oxygen mix and the grunt would have died(needing methane and all) so again, feels like it was made by someone who didnt know a damn thing about HALO

Its on Sangheilios so the hunters there are under the sangheili jurisdiction therefore those hunters aren't allowed their fuel rod (or fuel rod hasn't been invented at the time) the female sangheili does have mandibles. Some are saying the closing of their mandibles was a more off duty/ etiquette thing back then since this is over 1 to 3 thousand years before the games. It could have shown that sangheili was a very well formed man/sangheili and wasn't a homeless bum with no manners. But as corruption of the covenant went over the years sangheilis became lazy and began to lose that sense of being an intellectual.

The hair isn't real sangheili hair guys. Its a head dress that some of the canon people are saying is worn by the wife of either the arbiter or any other swordsmen clan to show that "My husband/husband's brother (Sangheili children are raised by their mother and uncle) is an honorable soldier/swordsman and heres my head dress to prove that.

Isn't that like...

Exactly what an elite already is?

Personally, I liked it a lot (just watched it now).

Carried a lot more depth to it than babysitter had (given the longer length, I'd hope so).

I think what a lot of people are nitpicking about is that this anime was based on traditional Japanese. IMO, I think this was a good fit for giving the elites a backstory, a lot of their nature and culture is based on some strong Japanese themes. In regards to the female elite, I can understand that she didn't appear in the game but for the anime, her role made sense. In the traditional Japanese view, women are seen as physically unequal or "weak" but that is because their traditional "role" is to support the male, which in Japanese culture would mean the woman must be just as strong as the man, if not stronger. I think I heard from another anime the expression "a sheath to encase the sword".. something along those lines. In that regard, everything made sense and I appreciated it because of it.

NOW, aside from that, some things were just too overtly Japanese. For example, their clothes? wtf?! Post-battle, the arbiter had a Japanese robe on (can't remember the actual name) and it just looked weird knowing they have "chicken" legs. They should've put more thought into the styling of their out of battle clothing.. yuck. Also, I personally hated the fact that the "samurai elite" was dressed in samurai armour. There wasn't even an attempt to mask the Japanese influence there, they just drew samurai armour, made him hunch over and stuck bent legs and an elite face on him.. mega-wtf?

Also, the animation was really smooth. I liked that it flowed, and not just for minor sequences like walking slowly or talking, but jumping and running were attempted to be as smooth as possible which was really cool. But why was it so grainy/ugly? It felt like I needed glasses the whole time, hope they clean that up a bit or something when they actually release it.

All in all, it was pretty good. You really feel for the arbiter and it was nice to see that not all the elites were mindlessly brain-washed to join the covenant like the game portrays (H1-H2).

Lastly, the 500ft hunter was super sexy. Super sexy in a shadow-of-the-colossus-aka-the-arbiter-man-handled-him kind of way.

This is a place for opinions, not arguments guys.

If I'm honest I didn't like it one bit. The physics and movements of the characters were horrible.

I don't care about gravity rules and specifics, A Hunter is not a Gundaum.

Things I liked:

-Small parts of the cutscenes, and generally the Arbiter was pretty badass.

Things I Hated:

-Energy swords can cut through metal, but I suppose if the metal is shaped like an energy sword, It won't cut through it right?

-Thought I was watching some cheesy sword fighting anime. Expecially due to the fact the elites look human with their new jaw construction.

-Female elite looked like an ant.

-Gundaum Hunter

-The Japanese crap was bad enough with the homes, but that elite samurai armor made me ill.

-Poor animation that looked like my computer was made from stained glass.

-Animators too lazy to show emotion or even the elites breathing. Instead they just use a still picture of the elite closeup, several time.

--------------

Not sure what you call this type of animation but it was horrible, along with the sick obsession of japanese culture here.

I also must say it seemed 'bad' The animation to me seemed jerky and I thought my computer was frozen a few of the times but everything else was fine. The female elite did not even remotly resemble an elite. In halo 3 there is no visible difference between male and female elites while in armour, though I would have been fine with what ghost147 put up. But, I liked the super hunter, because hunters are just little colonies of worms I thought it was interesting and plausible take on it. The grunt was funny but stupid. Also his mask may have been nocked off durring the fight, I have shot grunt tanks off in H3 and the grunt ran around for quite a while. All in all it was dissapointing.

I never liked the idea of Halo Legends and this did almost nothing to change my opinion. It was better than The Babysitter (which was absolutely atrocious), but not by much.

I liked that the characters had depth and emotions. The fights were better than The Babysitter. That's it.

I didn't like the japanese music playing throughout, it did not sound at all like anything that should relate to the Halo franchise. I realize it is made in Japan, but that doesn't change anything IMO.

I didn't like how human they tried to make the Elites. They tried to make the female attractive by human standards (sorta), which DO NOT apply to Sangheili. All the Elites heads should have been about twice as long and half as tall, and obviously they completely ruined the awesome mandibles (probably didn't want to animate four jaws at once). Also, although I thought the husband/wife element added to it, I don't think that's how Elites treat their women. Elites are a warrior culture, and they keep harems of wives, so I kinda expect them to treat females more as squaws. Just a hunch, though, based on stuff from the Halo novels.

I didn't like that Sangheilios looked like medival Japan, right down to the stupid Samurai Elite.

In the last scene, I kept expecting that ridiculous Elite to say dramatically, "Fal, I am your father!" That's probably just me being weird, though.
