Ok so I have multiple projects going on at one time. I am doing a new mark VI suit for myself that has better proportions and plainly will look better for going to events and such. I am planning on a black color with red highlights and red led lights. While I am using the Mark VI base I will add my own flavor to details as I come up with stuff to change. I also am doing a female spartan suit for my wife, the chest piece has tits, its awesome i Really liked that file. I also have a Halo 3 turret which will have rotating turret, and possibly sounds in the future once I figure out how how to implement those. I was thinking a digital recorder hooked up to speakers, but I need to be able to have sound at the push of a button so I am not sure. If anyone has any suggestions on that I would appreciate them. I am also making a halo pistol and a needler that will have illuminated needles for the wife. anyway look forward to seeing those projects as i post them as well.

Lets start with some helmet pictures.

the back part of the helmet will get more detail but that will get cut into the bondo. I also might add some other details as i can come up with ideas i like.

Here is the chest piece pepped out.

That is all the pepped pictures of it. I included some from the process of assembly as well. I am going to try and keep this pic heavy so you all can see the process all the way through as i go.

Here are some details I added to it. I probably will add more in the bondo stage.

I used toothpicks as the cross pieces in the recessed area. I figured they should resin really well and then not need to be bothered with except some bondo on the border of them to clean up the look.

Okay, I hope you do not mind me stealing your popsicle stick and toothpick idea. Those would resin amazingly well and keep things perfect so they don't sag. That idea is amazing.

How are you going to harden it? Rondo and/or fiberglass? What material are you using for the details? It looks like sintra or styrene, and I right?

I am doing probably 3 coats of resin on the outside, 1 coat of rondo then fiberglass cloth and resin. The detail pieces is Mat board for picture framing i believe. i bought a bunch off ebay to work on the pistol i am doing, ill get that posted up later. But its thin and stiff so it works great for the detail pieces.

Ok first off, I want to share my paint colors, I will be using Black for my armor color, and red for the detail parts and accents. here they are.

Now I covered this in my wife's armor post but for those of you who don't read that one, here. I will be using Candy Color automotive paint over a aluminum paint base. My understanding is that the candy colors are semitransparent and light goes through them so the aluminum under it creates a really nice look. Both her suit and mine will have Custom sewn under-suits. Thats right folks, I am going to learn how to sew. I plan on buying a sewing machine once the armor is done and learning to sew. I will be using semi tight clothing that breaths as a base. I will then add a zipper to the clothing and be using vinyl cloth for the details. certain vinyl cloth details will be connected on one side and Velcro on the other to hide the zippers. For example the spinal column will Velcro on one side to hide the zipper and be sewn to the other. so that's pretty much the plan. hopefully when this is all done we will have a couple of really awesome looking suits of armor that is truly show worthy.

Ok first part i will be sharing today is the shin pieces. I have them sized to the length I want but like the thighs they wont fit width wise so some modification will be in order. I haven't added the width yet to them but it will be simple as I will only be adding a inch to them and they will be good to go. For any noobs interested or any veterans that are curious how I tackle this problem I will show you on the thighs as those needed the most modification. I do want to add that i found this file in the 405th pep pack i downloaded about a year ago. I think it is a awesome file and a vary nice variation on the mark 6 shin which is kinda plain.

Ok thigh time. I scaled my thigh to 14 inches long it is a really good length for me. of course the problem then is they wont fit as the width isnt good. so i will show you how I problem solve this with both the pep file and little bits of paper. I will then follow with explanations for each pic as I can.

The first 3 are the finished product pep file only no mods. the next picture will be the piece with the first cut i made to expand it.

20130707_171021_zps9c4261f7.jpg

the next image will be the inner thigh piece. I printed cut and pepped just that piece to show how you can use a file to fix this issue. the 2nd picture is the pieces i cut off of that to add to the thigh piece.

20130707_171015_zps2d3e9732.jpg

now here is a picture of how i glued in the piece to the center of the inner thigh extending it a little bit. in the picture it looks like its crooked but it is actually flat in a straight line with the other two sections there in the middle. the next picture is where I added a section to the side of the inner thigh adding even more width. this was done the same as before.

20130707_173429_zps1d7f4c93.jpg

the last section I added width too was a flat area near the back of the leg. I added a section using card stock cut into strips and glued in. This is the free form version of adding to the file to get the proper width your body needs.

20130707_175740_zps29c7909d.jpg

now with those three sections added, i have a thigh piece of the proper length and width. Now i added folds to the added section to round out the piece. When i put on the first coats of resin, I will place it over a vehicle jack stand so the base forces it to hold a nice round shape. I may even glue in some wooden dowels for supports to hold the form. Once the resin is on you just bondo like normal and you will have a normal looking well fitting thigh piece. I did this on the last suit and after bondo and paint, you will not be able to tell the piece was modified as it appears to be in complete uniformity. The purpose of me choosing to do three sections was to allow the majority of the expanse to be in a region that is between your legs. Also by doing the 3rd expanse in the big flat are it adds to the other part of the piece so that it isn't out of proportion with itself. Well i hope you enjoyed my explanation of how i modify the thighs, ill do pics of the resining and the bondo so you can see first hand how well it works.

Everything looks good. I would also agree with you on the different version of the shin. It's more...unique. I'm also using that same file. Keep it up with the updates!

Today I put on the first layer of bondo on the helmet. It was just a test section, trying a new method I read about where you glue playing cards to the helmet to form your border lines. I was really happy with how it turned out. I think that area of the helmet can be done with only 1 more good coat of bondo then a little sanding and filler. I am going to prep the helmet for that tonight, as well as prep the helmet to modify the brim, i want to square it off so it has 2-3 angles in it, just to see how it will look. ill get more pictures up next week when I get more time to do some of that.

ok its been a while since ive posted anything, i have been tinkering with the project, but have mainly been distracted by wow, the wife got me to play again and I started raiding, its such a time suck. Anyhow, I have my boots, her boots, my shoulders, and her shoulders ready to receive bondo, the last layer cloth and resin is going in today so i will start applying bondo almost immediately after. Her shoulder toppers need 1-2 more times of sanding, then ill install the plexiglass and paint it. My fore arms need 1-2 more times of sanding and glaze to fix minor pits and then i can install the plexiglass and paint those. Her helmet is getting bondo on it, and my helmet needs 1 more sanding of some applied glaze and the newly added cuts on the back, then it should be ready for visor install process, adding the filler then a final sand and paint.

you will notice on the front of the helmet i have the vents cut out, i am going to make those this week. you may also notice that the recessed area at the edge of the visor is missing, I cut that out. and it will be cut into the 2 visors. it should add a really good clean look.

Also i got wondering about paint. I have never airbrushed before so it was a learning process, I think I have it figured out however. So here is my ab plate, i painted and clear coated it to get a idea of what it will look like and how many coats of each color I would need and such. Im using automotive candy color paint i has been previously stated. so please give me some feedback and or tips if you can. im trying really hard to make these builds as aw-some as i can.

Do you have the pepakura files for this? I have looked all over and the only ones I have found are nonexistent now...

Please, do not necro threads. It's been dead for longer than 3 years.
There are *plenty* of Mark VI files in the File Archive.
