Halo Reach Live Action Trailer

You guys are wrong about SIIIs. They were not abducted the way the SIIs were, they were orphans whose parents were killed by Covenant planet-glassing, and the UNSC gave them the chance to get even by enlisting in the SIII program. Maybe the trailer makes more sense now.

That said, I did not like this one. If they wanted to show "the birth of a spartan", they should have made clear the grief at the loss of his parents transfer into a rage that drives him to suceed in the grueling SPARTAN training. Maybe throw in a shot or two about the augmentation, but no more. On that note, since when do SPARTANs perform the procedure on themselves? There's not even a lab tech supervising to make sure all goes as planned. And PLEASE don't let that old guy be CPO Mendez, Mendez is WAY more awesome than that guy. Also, (and maybe I'm getting pedantic here) the vest the SPARTANs were wearing in the APC and the Pelican is outdated by today's standards, used only by third-world armies and terrorists.

I did like the ending shot of him looking at the armor. That was cool. I can also take heart that there's still about 5 months to the release, so MS will probably come up with at least one more live action short between now and then, and hopefully it'll be an improvement over this one (we want combat!).

Take a closer look at this name tag. Do my eyes decieve me, or did we breifly see Kat?

My reasoning behind this is, it LOOKS like Kat, and I see no evidence of any facial hair :/

Anyone find the source of the music yet? Like the short from ODST, the music is what really gave this one character.

ME, been planing for about 4 months now, on how to pull of the undersuit and the whole nine yards. Just waiting til after the wedding, so i can have some actual money to spend.

BTW, can some one help me out. I need a screenshot, preferably an HD shot, from the extended version or in the regular if its in there. Its where Carter starts walking down the hallway towards the armor. As soon as it shows the armor, before he steps into the frame blocking the view. I need a frontal, standing shot of the armor for scaling, I gotta get this right.

Ahh man that armor is sooo beast!

Hey, what is the song playing? Either name or link to a download please. I'm planning on cutting up all of the Live Action trailers and putting them into one whole fan made trailer, and I like this song. Also, does anyone know where I could download the other Live Actions to my computor? I already have Birth of a Spartan. (Starry Night is a Live Action isn't it?)

Thanks

Wasn't too fond of the live action trailer. The guy is too small to be a Spartan in my opinion. He didn't seem tall enough or bulky enough.

Spartan III's were normally 12-15 when they were given the genetic agmentation. Halo: Reach is years and years later after the Commercial.

Ok, I think I've figured out what I don't like about this one, as opposed to the other trailers. Keep in mind that I'm over analyzing it in true fanboy fashion, and I didn't HATE it...I just wasn't as blown away as I was by the previous live action outings. The Halo live action trailers have always been more symbolic to the Halo mythos rather than adapting a specific event from canon. The ODST trailer, for example, didn't really have anything to do with any events in the actual game, but was just designed to show an ODST from his youth, to his training, his first battle, and then his command, as well as show off some of the new weapons available in the game.

This time however, I think the symbolism is a little over the top, and actually comes at the expense of the lore. It ranks up there with Superman Returns and Terminator: Salvation as having one of the most 'beat you over the head with a shovel' christ metaphors I've ever seen; between the white robes, and the fully automated crucifying machine. I've always thought there was a good running christ allegory with Chief, and the other Spartans to a degree, seeing as how they're told from young children that they're to be the saviors of earth, and have to endure great pain and suffering in order to save humanity....but i prefer a degree of subtlety in my allegory.

The other thing I think the automated augmentation machine symbolizes is the idea of Spartan IIIs as being more of an assembly line Spartan. They've got the whole enhancement procedure down to the press of a button, showing that unlike the original Spartan IIs, these are much easier to produce and therefore expendable. In that regard, I suppose you can count the trailer as a success. However, it doesn't really work with established Halo lore, or with the logic of the universe. Ditto for things like the picture of his parents that he was holding, which his trainers would have NEVER let him keep. Wouldn't it have been more dramatic to show that picture getting taken away when he was first brought into the program. Wouldn't it have made more sense during the augmentation to have an army of scientists gathered around, poking and proding wolverine style in the X-men films? Couldn't they have found a better way to show a physiological change in the character then his eyes changing blue inexplicably? Wouldn't it have given more weight to the hardships he's endured to show off some of the Spartan training sessions?

Still, I will say this, the last shot in the trailer showing off his reflection against the armor was a very very nice touch.

Hit the nail on the head in my opinion... And to drgon47, I believe Kat is a woman anyway... remember the first REAL view on Reach? Where Noble 6 walks up to the group...?

something odd i just noticed. but the ID on the armor, the Carter s-259 or whatever is on the right side looking head on, but on the halo reach world premire its on the left side, looking head on.....god i need a life.

Just saw this on XBL.

The helmet reminds me of the pilot helm from the side but very Mk VB from the front. And they minimalize the vents even more...people would think that the vents make the Mk V ugly or something?

Gotta say I'm very pleased they're doing more live action stuff for Halo. And overall I'm very happy with the trailer (but I'm happy we got anything). Only nitpick is the absolutely no med staff present with the robots for safety purposes like folks have said.

Can't wait to see some more as we get closer to release. Anybody confirm who the studio was for this again?

The symbol was a alpha if I remember right. Its the group spartan IIIs he came from. If I remember Sierra 312 (aka the lone wolf or LT) is either a beta or a gamma, I want to say beta, that was yanked early from training.

perhaps the reason there was no medstaff present was because they wanted to symbolize how "alone" a spartan feels throughout the training process? Which still doesn't really make sense because to my understanding, they are trained in classes (I never read the books, so idk for sure). Its either that, or they just wanted to make it as artsy as possible :p
