Found this at HBO from yesterday. Apparently you can go helmetless in Halo 3: ODST's multiplayer. About 10 seconds in you can see the reviewer chosing through helmet options, and the ODST character's unhelmeted heads are available.

Now say what you will about it, I think this can be good for us when we're at events. Now there's canon to support removing your helmet when you're wearing your ODST suit at a convention! What a relief!

Well, it's not the chief... dunno why it feels wierd and unusual, but it does a little bit.

Thoughts?

That's pretty cool, I'm glad they put that in there. It does seem unnatural to be able to play as a character than can be recognized facially though.

Yeah, I saw the that in a cinematic when I was looking for more gameplay vids and what not. Head's look weird, in the cinematic I saw. I wouldn't care, if they didn't add the feature but it's nice that we've got more options.

Hey guys, haven't you thought, that possibly the fact that the ODST's now have a face that we can attribute to them, that we now have a way of relating to them, and as such, building that relationship, where if they get hurt, laugh, etc..etc; we can actually relate? Now, Bungie has given us more of a way to relate to our characters, and most likely we will be able to pick favorites, I mean, why have they given the ODST's names now? We had John-117, and so on...

Now we have Romeo, Dare, Buck, Rookie, Dutch..etc..

Bungie wants us to build friendships "figuratively" speaking, with these characters, and that's why we need to see their faces, I'd daresay, I'd have a better friendship with an ODST, than I would with the Chief, as cool as the Chief is, being able to see a person's face, gives that person an identity. Something that, you kinda need, when trying to relate to someone.

Just my 02.

Im glad they did that. You never play as someone without a helmet in any FPS halo games. Also I heard Harry Potter music in the background a little bit of the way through...lol

That's pretty cool. A first for any Halo game.

I wonder if you'll still get the HUD. I mean, without a helmet, there's no possible way you could have the VISR mode or the reticule, etc.

Maybe it makes the game slightly more difficult.

thats coolio, only if that could of been put in halo 3, i want to see MC's face, but thats cool you can relate the helmetless ODST that have personality and such to the Star Wars Clone Wars movie

VISR Mode, maybe when your playing helmetless, sunglasses of some sort is worn? ehh idk but you can call it "Magic" xD or or, they have it built in their eyes :eek

(just joking around)

On my first glance at this topic's title, my heart rate tripled, thinking it's something about the Chief... :D But no.

This seems like an exciting new thing, I'll undoubtedly try it myself. But I can see why it would feel different.

The 3 Halo games have conditioned some of us to feel comfortable in nothing short of a helmet.

This is going to be weird!

if you wathc the video al the way through you get a pretty awesome portrait of firefight ad it also proves that odsts can board vehicles.

I think I heard someone say "They've asket you to not change the appearence" sor something along the lines of that.

I'm guessing whatever that was, we weren't supposed to see it?

...Sweet.

THE RED PLASMA RIFLE'S BACK!!!

Sounds like Sgt. Johnson himself might be a permutation. Like a Johnson head or something.

Wait a minute.... why the hell can odsts punch through the doors of a wraith? How?

OFF TOPIC: lol. Joe Staten is doing the superintendant's voice. Just noticing that from the E3 press conference stuff.
