Ok recently I just made an Iron Man Pepakura helmet. I only did the faceplate and I wanted to strengthen the paper. So I used the paper mache way instead of the fiberglass way because fiberglass resin is something i cant buy. So... I finished with the faceplate only. It's all wrinkled and is there any way to smooth it all out? Help would be appreciated.

Just asking... which one is more movie accurate?

I suggest that once you make it sturdy enough with the paper mache, that you use auto body filler to smooth it out. If you can't find bondo brand body filler, then I'm sure there's some other brand.

Thanks for the reply but I also heard if you sand it when it's dry that it will work. Is that true?

1st one is movie accurate and mchammer time is right you should just use "bondo" (body filler) to smoothen it out that will produce a great smooth finish

Hey dude, I can help you here.

I'm also a UK Spartan and I know where you can get all the stuff you need,

but just before I do, you may want to check out Sharkhead's Iron Man helmet file,

Most movie accurate out there.

I personally haven't worked with paper mache, but I know it wouldnt be the greatest idea to sand it.

It'll become all crumbly and horrible, so go with Car Filler.

Bondo isn't the best term for UK Spartans, due to it being an american brand.

You can get resin, fibreglass and car body filler from Halfords or anything similar.

If you have any local car accessories store you may wanna check that out first, because the prices will be lower.

Once you have the filler applied and hardened, you then want to sand it down, then add more filler, sand it, repeat.

Until you have a decent finish.

Then you can add a coat of Primer (a form of spray paint) that shows imperfections and also bonds the next layer of paint to the Primer, so it doesn't flake or anything.

Hope I was of use, if you need anything else just PM me :)

Good luck,

Thanks a lot

In the pictures above I only put the paper mache inside. Is that right? From the looks of it, should I have put some on the outside too?

I would put it on the outside too. It would make it harder and more sturdy. Which is good incase you drop it so that it wont break.
