I found an awesome tutorial on the LEDs if you ever feel like doing it =] Daft Punk - Guy LED Tutorial.
Also, how far have you got with the helmet?
Any updates, have you fixed it up since the incident as well? =]

I'm still in the same stage. I need to repair. I couldn't of done it this past week because of my classes. They're all scattered around so the only days I have to work on it is Thursday to Sunday. Another reason is because ALL of the supplies (Bondo, Dremel, respirator, resin, etc..) is at my friend's house. (We were both working on Daft helmets)

Hopefully I get to make some progress tomorrow seeing how my friend has no school. :D

Since I haven't been able to go to my friend's house to work on my Guy-Manuel Helmet, I decided to start on another helmet, Thomas'.
Here's my progress after 2 days of just messing around.

Here's the same image with some photoshop magic. xD

I know its not going to be anywhere as near as Volpin's or Mr. Pinksi's Thomas' helmets but I don't care. I like how it looks right now. :)

If you're going to do tin can ears as I did, you should use a larger can. I used an Arizona can the first time and it was much too small. Go to the liquor store and get a couple of Foster's cans, maybe some Sapporo cans. You'll be much happier with the result.

The old ears were also set too far back. Fixed that.

What did you use to cut the bottom of the bigger can? I got a biga can of Bud Light and tried to cut it but its extremely hard. :/

EDIT: For bondo'ing, do I have to wait for the previous layer to FULLY cure before I cab apply a new layer? Or can I just put a nee layer on the almost cured layer?

You need a Dremel with a cutting bit and about an hour. haha. It's a pain in the ass to do but the results are totally worth it. I've even used the sand paper bits for the Dremel to cut the bottom out of the bigger can.

For the bondo, you should do a single run at a time. Sand, fill where needed, and so forth.

Make sense?

Yeah I get you, It's just that I can clearly see spots where there's more bondo.
Alright, So Bondo, Sand, Fill craters, sand, and repeat.

EDIT: and about the can thing,

That **** was hard! I used a cutting wheel and it did cut but it was a bitch. and then I have to smoothen and get that perfect circle which is near damn impossible. I ended up messing up the can and gave up. It's waay too hard to do it. Atleast for me it is. -_-

Update on my Thomas bucket:

Painted it Black:

Next to my Guy Helmet: (My friends drew on it, hence the "mustache"

I'm currently applying bondo to Thomas and fixing up Guy. With Thomas, I'm going to apply fiberglass on the inside because I kinda forgot about that. I resin'd but forgot to fiberglass it. So its Fiberglass 1st and then continue to add bondo to the sections that dont have it. Then its Sand, Fill in "craters", sand, fill, repeat. :p

Nothing worth doing gets done quickly. Take your time. This isn't a race. You're doing it for yourself, it should be as perfect as you want it to be. And if doubling the cans is too hard, just use the single bigger can. It will look better.

When cutting the bigger can, did it get hot as hell? Mine did. D:
And How did you go cutting the bottom?
I was gonna cut a cross, and then try bending the triangle flaps back and forth untill they snap but thats really hard.
Did you cut the bottom in a square and then sand the edges?

I used up maybe 20 sandpaper sleeves on just the bottom of the can. Sapporo makes really thick cans for some reason. Yes, it got super hot! I wore gardening gloves when holding the can. The thing you need to do is get a hole just big enough for the Dremel sandpaper barrel to fit into and just slowly work your way outward. It takes time. Took me an hour! Good luck! You can do this!!!

And make sure to wear eye protection!!! Lots of crap will fly up at you!

Holy crap. So you just drilled a hole for the sandpaper barrel to fit and then just started sanding in circles, making the hole bigger? o_O
Sounds pretty freaking time intensive. :$ I guess I'll try that next time.

Thanx man! I can't wait either, I wish I didn't have school though, I would be done sooooo much quicker.
I was going to use dungbeetles' pep file but I didn't. I ended up using a hardhat (Because thats all my local goodwill had. >_>) and I used LuchoFunk's file. It was easier imo.

i wouldn't waste bondo on the visor area if your'e gonna cut it out. also, why did you cover the helmet in bondo? just do parts that need smoothing. any way, love the guy helmet! :D

LOL same here but i wish i also had a job. pep file or not it still looks great keep it up
looking forward for the updates:D:D

Sorry for the lack of updates, I've been real busy with college and life in general, Hopefully I'll get some work done on Friday and the whole weekend.
I figured since I'm not gonna chrome my thomas bucket, I'm gonna do an encore version of it. But instead of red/orange EL wire, I'm gonna use Blue. (It's the only color I have, Gonna take it from my Mau5head)

Examples:

I remember seeing an absolutely gorgeous encore thomas helmet that I'm pretty sure Mr. Pinksi made.
If your reading this, Can you post a pic of it?

EDIT: Found it!
