It looks pretty good, but I can't see the detail or curves that well because it lacks a single color paint sheme- a camera just can't capture it clearly if it's not primed. What I can see looks good though. I'd be intersted in how vac forming a mark vi would work, what are the advantages of that over a more traditional latex mold and smoothcast helmet? If you already have a vac table I guess it may save some cash but I think that the other way is tried and true. Then again, if nobody ever tried anythig new we would never learn anything. Keep us updated, I'd like to see the result.

well i think i am going to just kinda experiment a bit with this. i am going to use a relatively thin plastic (polystyrene 1/16) this should allow my 2 shop vacs to suck everything in nice and tight... if doing the entire helmet in one piece doesnt work i'll cut it in 2 pieces...

also too do you want to explain this latex process to me. dont think i have hear this one yet

That's not a bad helmet. I hope my first piece of armor which are one or maybe comes out half as good as that. Love to see a win it is painted

I like how you did the padded effects. This is looking very good. When you put the visor in I'm sure it'll look even better. I'd suggest giving it the battle worn look.

i plan on doing that to the final one! i have always liked how people have done the battle damage!

I said latex, meant to say silicone- my meaning is just to make a mold of the helmet with rebound and cast it in smoothcast. I was at work and it was late and somehow I had latex on the brain.

but now that you say latex do you think that might work. i coat it a few (many hundred lol) times then cover that in a resin for stability... that might be a cheaper way to do this!! well it is worth a try. i like making halo armour but not enough to spend a fortune! i am going to school right now and that costs a ton plus me and my parents finding ourselves with out work... it gets tough. so that is why i am trying to stay cheap! lol ok enough of that

latex would be fragile but i think it would last long enough for a few casts. i kinda view it as a disposable paint brush... not as good at the original but cheaper and just as effective! i dont know. let me know what you think.

ok small update! i decide to do some more bondo!! i saw too many imperfections with the helmet so i decided it needed one more coat. still sanding!

just measured the thigh again and wore it.... sad to say it is too small :( poo

I'm glad you decided to add more bondo. Be sure to wet sand with 80, 120, and atleast 240, then prime and then mold.

You want to get the helmet perfectly smooth, all the sanding marks will appear on all of the other casts if you dont.

So you dont need to sand every new helmet you cast.

yeah i sanded it down pretty well this time.. there are still a few imperfections but it is less than last time... i am running out of money and i got no more bondo... :( un-employment sucks... anyway now to sand it with a finer grit!! thanks for the tips!

if possible try getting a filling primer. That will help you alot to get rid of the smaller imperfections.

It's just a primer that's thicker than normal that fills any minor imperfections and can be wet-sanded afterwards to get everything really smooth. It can also be called sandable primer, should be with all the other spray cans wherever you buy your paint.

other names are

High build primer or spray putty.

Most common colours are grey or red oxide, but can get black and white in certain brands.

don't get the red oxide though as it bleeds through light colours.

VHT do a good one and I believe VHT are world wide so you should have no issues finding it.

well i've played soccer all my life and to get the thighs to fit how i like they're scaled for a 6'1" person.

i think the height is 415mm. also i used crackhead09's pdo file

ok since my last post i got the vht... but i didnt do it all that correctly and i think my helmet was too imperfect for it to correct SO i bought some of the oil based clay and am layering the helmet! it is starting to look GOOD!!! finally
