also just found out from the press conference vid that the bottom piece is a scope not a flashlight, that's right they brought back the halo 1 pistol!

ODST with Magnum
I know they said they added the scope, but from the look of that pic, it still looks like a flashlight, you just have to zoom in on the image a bit to see it.

Not really.

It might have been inspired by the DE .50, but its definately not the same weapon, or even slightly modified. Some artists decided the DE was a pretty cool gun, then made their own "futuristic" version.

On another subject, does anyone have any ideas on what the etching might be thats just above the three screws or the etching on the clip? The one on the clip looks vaguely like a bird or phoenix, but I can't make out the other at all.

It's and "M" with an arrow above it. Nothing more.

I know about the M and arrow, the ones I was asking about are these ones, highlighted in red. I think the one on the clip is the UNSCDEF symbol, atleast thats what I'm guessing, but the other I have no idea what it would be exactly, except maybe a serial number.

S1l3nt, I misunderstood, I thought you meant the M and arrow just above the trigger. Sorry. I think you and Orrion are right. As for the other, the serial number is the only thing I can come up with too, so thats what I'm assuming it is.

Well then, I am glad that we have come to an agreement! ^^
As for the Silencer attachment, does look like it has a serial number or a manufacturer name on it.

It may not be fairly close to the Deagle, but you can defiantly tell that some Inspiration came from a Deagle.
You also cant rule out the Jericho 941 for other inspiration.

The Idea of the "barrel silencer" probably came from China's Type 64 and 67 Pistols

Ill probably find some more info and guns close to this one, if i do, Ill be sure to post up my findings.

Cheers,

We should really just focus on the silencer and laser sight. This is the standard issue side arm.

The problem with just doing the suppressor, laser and light, is that the weapon isn't a standard issue Halo 2/Halo 3 pistol. If you read the Bungie site, it states that the weapons we are used to are "upscaled" for use with Mjolnir armor. The ones from ODST are actually normal sized then. You can see this very plainly in the clip, which is significantly longer in the ODST version than the Halo version.

not to sound like a nag, but I'm not talking functional here I'm talking looks. It's base model is almost an exact match to a standard issue. IE: some slight modifications could produce a very acurate prop. It's not like I'm talkin about making a functional weapon.

True, you could modify one of them and make it work, but I think I'll go with designing one thats as close to accurate as possible. I've already got the two sides finished, I'm almost done working on the top and back. Once I get the front and bottom done, I'm going to make up a prototype to make sure it all works, then I'll post them.

This page might help a little bit

Halo Wiki M6C/SOCOM Information

According to this page atleast, the gun is 10.5" long. I tossed the image into Auto CAD, drew a 10.5" line and scaled the image to fit the line then printed it all out. With the gun at 10.5 inches it seems small compared to the image you see here...

odstpistol2adjusteda.jpg

When I put my hand up next to the handle of the weapon only 3 of my 4 fingers fit inside of the big trigger guard. That would mean that the gun would have to be atleast 1 foot long to be scaled proportionally to what is seen in the image above.

So I grabbed my trusty Scale Ruler and did a grip test on it. From where my first finger landed to where my last finger landed I came up with a measurement of about 3.75" which I rounded up to 4". Based on that measurement I started scaling the overall length of the weapon up until the trigger guard hit 4".

With the trigger guard at 4" the over all length of the weapon came out to be 16.5" from tip to butt. This would mean that its height is approximately 10" (due to the clip being longer than the grip of the gun). Most of the measurements are coming out to be nice round numbers with the length at 16.5". Truth be told it might even be a little bit bigger because the ODST in the picture is wearing gloves which would make the space between his fingers a little bit bigger. Either way this sucker is massive (Eat that Desert Eagle). With the clip size measuring about 2" wide that would mean that the rounds for this gun would be approximately 1-3/4" long (given 1/8" on either size for the walls of the clip)

The picture above was also taken at an off center position which means that it would look shorter. So don't let that fool you on the size of this thing.

What do the rest of you folks think of the size assessment?
