Have i read the poem? yes, did you see the movie? no, you write
and yet, you have never seen the movie, so how would YOU know what you were talking about?

Not true, im disappointed they tried to adapt Beowulf into a Leonidas for their movie. It would be like putting a happy ending on the Odyssey, where instead of being forgotten by his people, he is remembered for all time and gets a billion women, and cures cancer.

I also said,

'Truthfully, I have yet to see the film, but I have no doubt in my mind I will enjoy it. Even if it isn't the best movie this year, I'm sure it will be much better than most of the dribble you see on the big screen these days.'

Beowulf was not adapted to be play as a Leonidas clone, it's called acting and each actor puts their OWN efforts into a character.

Don't even get me started on your references to The Odyssey. I've read and own the book.
Read the ending again, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odyssey#Outline_of_the_plot

And you talk about filming style like you know anything about it, but obliviously you don't. Otherwise, you'd understand that 300 and Beowulf are completely two different styles of filming. I don't have to see the movie to know that, as I've seen clips which is usually is enough for me to determine what kind of movie it's going to be.

Finally, you're 16, what would you know about good movies when most of the greats have been around longer than you've been alive?

movies are timeless, and though i am young i can still watch them and understand them.

just watch the movie and then talk to me. you will see my point

p.s.

my father brought me up by teaching me on major movie sets, as well as design and filmmaking since i was born. so i know A LOT and yes they are different styles I GET IT.
beowulf has terrible cinematography is what i talk about

i hate how people are chomping at the bit to make these epic battle movies so they can get rich off of the bastardization of great literature. the truth is because it was released close to 300 and is of a similar genre of course there will be comparisons. but i knew once i saw the preview it would be a CG mainstream blockbuster that everyone and his dog was going to. and those fears where realized when i saw a girl from my school going knowing full well that if she was there then a group of my friends must have been there too. these being the people who don't know jack **** about movies and were merely going to discuss why this is a rip off of 300. the very same people who when questioned about the original story had no clue it existed before yesterday.

Now luckily i was going to see "no country for old men" which i can honestly say effected me in such a way that everything i knew and loved about film is upside down (and yes i knew the book existed but no i didn't read it)

So in point go home everyone

heh, Internet arguing.

anyhow, i would just like to ask something: when you get the cg to this level you have to wonder if there's any point. i mean, fine you can make them fly around without needing to match a cg double to the real actor but come on!!! when i first saw a trailer i was wondering why everyone was acting so crap and why they put everything through a really bad filter that made everything look waxy and fake. (oh wait, its bad cg!) also, i hate the idea of cashing in on classics and editing them for the mainstream to make a quick buck off a classic name. you can claim its bringing classics to more people but its not, its bringing movies with the names of classics to more people. i wouldn't be surprised of next year we see a cg heavy version of the odyssey in which odysseus makes a deal with poseidon and then goes beck with him to kick troy's ass, again... with dragons... and semi-naked snake womon... and lots of sex sceens... with female elfs.... (what else can we cram into this story so more people will see it?)

oh, by the way odysseus was not forgotten by his people. read it again, i know the language is a bit complicated but its not that bad.

wow, didnt expext that to be that long, whopse.
mmm cookies.
on another note, anyone read day watch?

Is that one of the russian series about the night and day watch?
I saw the night watch movie, had to watch it twice because it was so confusing the first time around. Second time definitly helped and I would love to see the other two parts to this series.

I will have to see it to make that judgement, but if that's the only bad thing about it, I'll still be satisfied. I might have to just go see it this weekend.

Cinematography is still really based on personal experience and preference, i.e. - I liked the way 300 shot their battle scenes, but my friend, who studied cinema and production, and is also heavily into making and shoting his own stuff, said he liked it at first but overly they did too much with the slow-mo 'finishers'. He has very good taste in movies and I respect his opinions, even when I disagree with them. Though sometimes, he misses really important details like in the SAW movies, I usually figured them out well before he did as I'm very attentive to details.

I myself find a movie is good when I'm not constantly turning to my friends making jokes about scenes in the movie or the people watching it. I find very few movies great or excellent/awesome/fantastic.
My scale goes from 'craptacular', 'alright', 'entertaining(good)', 'great', and finally 'I want to see this movie again AND pay for it'.

I'm curious, which major movies were you at the sets of?

Eventually they're going to run out of epic poems and literature to rip off, and then what are they going to do?

Shel Silverstein?

That would be the most chaotic thing in history. Which makes me think they'd eventually do it.

(p.s. squirrel makes a good point. Scenes with naked elf women? That's like a mousetrap for nerds. o_O)

ok if ur concentrating on a girls breast and if thats what you thought about the movie then my goodness its like cartoon porn but it doesnt show everything i am going to go see it for the story and action not for breasts

The story and the plot still divulged enough for it to be less-than-impressing for me. But that's just me.

I was scared to see it because I was scared it's gonna turn out like Eragon. :cautious:

At least it was better than that crappy excuse for a movie.

yea Eragon was junk, but if you've never read or heard of the poem its a great movie, its like ive you've never read the books, the harry potter movies look really good.

hate to fly off topic but i feel the harry potter movies do slightly different stuff to attract more audience but they follow the story line 50 billion time better than eragon did in the book compared to the movie. In eragon the dragon had this sickly sweet girl voice and in the audio book how it was approved by Chris paolini it sound like a low raspy booming voice so i thought eragon sucked

one word: re-makes

ie: war of the worlds, guess who's comming to dinner(renamed 'guess who' for the remake), ocean's 11, i could go on.

are you sure? :p

also, another thing about new movies that annoys me is the 'discreet product placement'! anyone see the 2 hour advertisment that was 'i robot'? "*knock knock* 'hello sir, im a DELL robot delivering your fedex package right to your door and on time.' 'thanks. these must be my new kicker shoes. their a classic, you cant beat em! im now guna turn on my sony widescreen hdtv(hhddbvd) while i wait for my pizza from pizza hut to be dillevered to my door in a bmw. anyone seen my motorola phone?'

oh and 23Magnum: yup, it sure is. the movie is like a tralor for the book, its not even a third of the story! just got day watch today.

I saw it in 3D imax it was ridiculous cuz it was made for it and there was like spears poppin out at you and grendel kicking guys off the movie screen and it was just so well done ... the only thing i didnt like was that it made the whole movie look like a really well done cutscene from a videogame
