Hey I was thinking it would be neat to have a Halo paintball helmet, and I've seen some things about materials and how breakable they are, so could I get away with a motorcycle helmet as a base with wooden decorations on it? I thought maybe screwing the wooden pieces into the helmet (from the inside out) and not making it too elaborate. Any thoughts?

that's at least one of the safest ideas I've heard to date.

Again, we aren't about building weapons\armor, we're props.

That being said, if you just want a quasi MC helmet, you're not looking at too bad a start. The thing that would worry me about a motorcycle helmet is I don't know how the faceplate would take getting hit. I really wouldn't endorse trying it since your eyes are really really valuable.

my son is playing with the idea and has a full face paintball mask that he has started playing with the idea with due to the paintball mask would take the hit and anything he added to it would just be decoration and if it broke it would not effect the protection.

i think callader's son knows where its at greenleaf i think you should fo for an already legal(safe and approved) paint ball mask then wooden decoration would be good I wouldn't bolt it on because you may loose structural integrity of the helmet . maybe hot glue??

terrible idea... helmet will be too heavy, bulky and unsafe for paintball use in general. A motorcycle visor is not a replacement for paintball goggles that are designed for taking the impact of a paintball. I think I see one of these "can I make a helmet for paintball/airsoft" ideas every week. The short answer is no, the long answer is no it's not designed for it so don't use it.

what if you found a large visor from an old paint ball mask and used that as the visor and attached some tint to it or something. and just add alot of resin and fiber glass. i would do some tests to see if resin and fiberglass could take a shot from a higher powered paintball gun though.

Fiberglass will not take the impact of a paintball. I'm not too sure about you but I don't want shards of fiberglass hitting me in the face because I want to look like masterchief when I play paintball.

i dont play paintball but i used the paintball masks when i played airsoft. maybe like a thick coat of rondo on top of the fiberglass inside of the helm would be strong enough? idk if i get the chance i might have to test this. Anyone in NC with a paintball gun wanna help out?

Gang, this is a forum about creating costumes in tribute to the Halo games. They are not intended to be used for an inherently more dangerous hobby such as airsoft or paintball. The equipment used in those sports is certified as safe for that event.

If anyone were to use an idea or technique suggested on the 405th and get injured, it is possible that the staff here could be found liable. Therefore such discussions are normally closed and deleted when found by an administrator.

In short, if you enjoy airsoft or paintball, that is great! But please take discussion of your hobby to an appropriate forum. This is a forum to help you create a costume, not protective equipment.

That might explain a bit. It goes strait through his helmet. But i dont see why, if you casted it, you couldnt just have a heaps thick layer of plastiic with some padding?
