My point is, why would you want to slap a logo all over something that technically, we don't own. It's 1) illegal, and 2) immoral. I have no problem with the hand modeled patterns, as they are hand modeled and should be congratulated/credited, but still, they aren't exactly out of the clear, especially with M$ starting to produce their own armor sets for sale.

What would happen if M$ hit this site with a cease and desist order because they saw a pattern, mind you, that is hosted on a freely open public forum, that ANYONE can access, with the logo slapped all over it?

Also, Magnum, the reason I am bringing it up is for the reason I just posted above...seems none of the rest of you bothered to think of the consequences these actions might hold. Seriously man...I'm a cosplayer...you think I myself worry about legalities of reproducing copyrighted art? Hell no I don't.

Whenever people ask me about my Halo armor, or my Daft Punk helmet, I always, always link them here...just wanted to put that out there before someone tries to throw it in my face.

the whole site is based on the copyrighted material from Halo. Why point out this one thing?

But this is also still a pretty small site...which is a thing I like about it. It only has 6K members as of this point...ergo, it doesn't receive that much attention (outside of the google search results).

I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade here, but just presenting some facts. You don't have to accept them if you don't want to...doesn't matter to me either way, I just want you guys to realize both the good and bad sides to this.

I think most of us are trying to get you to see the same point. That is, I believe we all know the possible legal implications this site could have brought down upon it if the wrong people were to view the site. This has been discussed before in great length, and basically there's nothing anyone can do about it. You either keep using the information on the site and take your chances, or you don't. Nothing more really to say about it so why not just let it go and keep making our props and stuff.

What exactly is your purpose in bringing an argument to this thread?

I second these statements

Also i agree with adam (the root admin mind you)
The whole site is Copy Righted stuff, it doesn't matter, if M$ wanted to come after our community, they already would have.

OT: Every time someone says this, I glance over to their avatar and imagine them singing it in a big, ridiculous, Sinatra voice.

When did I say we should stop? Like I've said twice now, I send people to this site often whenever I'm asked about my suit...hell, i encourage the use of it...but as you just said, we should be careful...especially with putting logo's all over stuff that could potentially lead the wrong people here.

It's a gamble of course...I have no issues with the way things are handled/ran here, I'm just saying be careful in decision making about this. I encourage everyone to keep working on stuff...hell, I just released those Daft Punk helmets and about to release a Samus helmet file...like I said, you think I give a $#!T about the legalities of it? Nope.

putting a logo on a file is to get people who are interested to put feedback in to this sight.

there would be nothing better then to get more people who would like to make armor, who have made armor at the sight. The next cool idea could come from someone that see a pep file. follows a link and start posting.

as for if M$ could put a stop to the web page. they could any day of the week. i think it happen to one of the bubba fett webpages. someone might know more about this. i dont know as much as i should on this.

I'm on it, every time I post a new deviant on deviantart, or someone ask me a question, I post/tell them that I learned it all on the 405th

Thanks guys

Too much black, too much ink.
This is the one I threw into my modified NZ ODST helmet:

And I'm fairly certain it will be in some of the soon to be released ODST files as well.
I think it's working well, I've seen a handful of the visors that have this printed on it. It's a start, at least.

I also put this one off to the side, with the model info in text under it:

But I don't know whether that one stays or not.
If one of the Top Brass would like to chime in, I can start going through the library and adding them to existing files.

Not to add fuel to the fire but Bungie and Microsoft (as much as I hate M$... *looks down at linux laptop*) have been pretty generous especially Bungie in the use of what they have made in a positive manner (Red vs Blue for example and their inclusion even into the 3rd installment of Halo, the Puma markings on the warthog tire etc..). Red vs Blue was even their game recorded and sold on DVD with no consequence. So I don't believe we will have any sort of ramifications from either of the two unless buying and selling of the armor takes place, even then they have bigger fish to fry then us. So use what they have given us in a positive manner and it's free advertising for them. Why ruin free advertising? ^^

Back on topic: As a 3d modeler, I agree that someone should be given credit and as stated earlier in some cases it would be impossible to list all of the people involved so the key item would to be to give the community credit as stated and make a small black and white logo to be used to help promote the site on the models. /End my 2 cents.

Cheers,
Kensai

Not to be a butt, I'm pretty sure RvB has a contract with MS/Bungie. I don't think they could have sold any DVD's with out some kinda of contract :)

*sigh* After some research they did indeed receive permission to do the DVD sales.. but I really meant to focus on machinima and other sorts of copyright infringement, all of the other series out there do not have the official M$ and Bungie stamp.. (I looked this time..lol) Long story short, there are many other widely public examples and for the most part they have been more than ok with it ... for the time being. Looking back on it .. it was a stupid quote to throw out there without backing it up. So on that note I learned something new, thanks SKG. Anyhow, resume back on topic:

Cheers,
Kensai
